DESCRIPTION AWS Utility Computing (UC) provides product innovations — from foundational services such as Amazon's Simple Storage Service (S3) and Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), to consistently released new product innovations that continue to set AWS's services and features apart in the industry.
As a member of the UC organization, you'll support the development and management of Compute, Database, Storage, Internet of Things (Iot), Platform, and Productivity Apps services in AWS, including support for customers who require specialized security solutions for their cloud services.

The AWS Region Services team is seeking a Principal Systems Development Engineer to lead our Services team.
You'll join a diverse team of applied scientists, software engineers, and security experts.
You'll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for security and safety while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers.

Your work will help to take AWS into the future; innovate cloud computing solutions and solve technical problems while fundamentally transforming the way we partner with customers to meet their key mission requirements and goals.
This position requires that the candidate selected hold or be able to attain an Australian Government Security Vetting Agency clearance https://www1.defence.gov.au/security/clearances) Key job responsibilities - Lead the development, maintenance and growth of our services platforms.
These platforms verify the correctness of our network security controls using technologies like observability, packet injection, automated reasoning, static analysis, and machine learning.
- Work with a cross-functional team consisting of Software Development Engineers focused on building new service and automation capabilities, and closely align with Security Engineers focused on building telemetry, mining data, and responding to detection capabilities.
- Through effective leadership and partnerships within Infrastructure Security, elevate the AWS Services delivery in region.
About the team The Region Service provides the highest calibre of Operational Solutions and Cleared Support for services within our Regions.
We provide 'hands on keyboard' support to our service teams by deploying changes into these isolated regions, monitoring the results, and reporting any issues that are observed.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS - 5+ years of engineering team management experience - 10+ years of engineering experience - 10+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience - Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and operations - Experience partnering with product or program management teams PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Experience managing a team of high caliber Software Engineers developing complex, world class, scalable software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers - Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy - Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers Acknowledgement of country: In the spirit of reconciliation Amazon acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community.
