The Principal Strategy and Research Officer leads critical work within the Strategy and Reform business area to deliver research and evidence, policy review, program analysis and recommendations for the Office of the Director-General.

As the Principal Strategy and Research Officer, you will lead critical work within the Strategy and Reform business area to deliver research and evidence, policy review, program analysis and recommendations for the Office of the Director-General. This newly created role reports to the Director, Strategy and Reform.
The ideal candidate will be a critical thinker with an ability to research, interpret, digest and simplify complex information and data for vast audiences including elected representatives, senior leaders across government, and community. Experience and/or qualifications covering public policy, business strategy, government or law would be favourable.
In this role the ideal candidate will:
• Identify and action key strategic projects and initiatives that contribute to improved department performance and outcomes.
• Provide professional, authoritative and timely strategic advice on housing, homelessness, local government, planning and public works issues to inform strategy, policy, program and project development.
• Undertake rigorous and complex research and analysis to develop options and provide advice on housing and homelessness reform opportunities.
• Identify data sources, position papers, and submissions to analyse, collate and present housing and homelessness trends that support or influence the department's objectives.
• Maintain oversight of local, state and national housing and homelessness priorities and legislative reform and contribute strategic advice on its impact or opportunity for the department.
• Plan and lead collaboration and engagement with stakeholders and partners to inform advice about whole-of-sector housing and homelessness policy commitments and reform agendas.
• Prepare high-quality, professional and evidence-based written materials and communications about strategic housing and homelessness strategy, policy, and reform, including briefs, reports, cabinet submissions, and support materials.
