Your opportunity The Principal Strategic Planner will help shape a new City Plan for Redlands Coast, leading strategic land use planning projects and providing high-level planning guidance within the team. Responsibilities include overseeing planning studies and research, drafting new planning scheme codes and policies, and translating corporate strategies into statutory planning instruments and policies. The role also involves building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including policy partners in Council, government bodies, community groups, and contractors, and staying informed on trends and risks that may impact the city's land use vision.
This role offers a unique, career-defining opportunity to contribute to the creation of a new Redland City Plan from inception through to completion. With a 4-day work week (29 hours), this position also supports work-life balance, offering flexibility in scheduling your week to suit your needs.

A demonstrated high level understanding of current and emerging issues and practices in strategic land use planning, and proven skills in the drafting of statutory planning instruments and land use planning policy and strategy.Achievement in effectively managing, leading and participating in multi-disciplinary teams and/or inter-organizational, inter-governmental teams with proven project management and complex professional problem-solving skills.Demonstrated research, analytical, diagnostic and problem-solving skills and experience in the identification, investigation and evaluation of land use planning policy and strategy.Demonstrated high level interpersonal influence, consultation, negotiation, liaison, and conflict resolution and presentation skills.Demonstrated track record in managing strategic land use planning projects including definitions of project scope, methodology, performance monitoring and budget control.Proven track record in preparing high quality research papers, formal reports, policies, guidelines, service agreements, funding submissions and correspondence with external agencies.We asked our people why they choose to work at Redland City Council.
