The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is an independent statutory authority responsible for preparing and conducting criminal prosecutions in Victoria on behalf of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Matters prosecuted by the DPP and the OPP involve serious crimes or matters that are of significance to the fair and effective operation of the Victorian criminal justice system.
The OPP consists of the Solicitor for Public Prosecutions and a staff of approximately 440 providing legal and corporate support to the DPP, the Chief Crown Prosecutor and Crown Prosecutors in the exercise of their independent roles in the criminal justice system.

Principal Solicitor, Training and Advice Mental Impairment and Unfitness (Ongoing, Full Time) Are you an experienced solicitor with a passion for advancing legal expertise in mental impairment?
The Office of Public Prosecutions (OPP) is seeking a Principal Solicitor, Mental Impairment, to play a vital role in enhancing our knowledge and practice in this specialised area.
About the Role
As the Principal Solicitor, you will be the primary contact for professional advice and training on mental impairment within the OPP.
You'll lead initiatives to improve our mental impairment knowledge base, identify emerging legal issues, and propose strategic responses.
You will also represent the OPP in engagements with external bodies and stakeholders, as directed by management and the OPP executive.
This role is instrumental in promoting a culture of professionalism, courtesy, and respect, encouraging innovation, and supporting staff across the legal practice to deepen their understanding of mental impairment matters.
Key Responsibilities Serve as the main contact for all advice and training on mental impairment.Identify and address existing and emerging legal issues in mental impairment law.Represent the OPP in external engagements, as directed.Model OPP values and promote a respectful, professional culture.Manage complex files in line with workload guidelines, balancing prosecutions with training and advisory duties.About You
We are looking for an experienced solicitor who demonstrates leadership in mental impairment law, has excellent relationship-building skills, and values a collaborative and respectful work environment.
You should be able to balance prosecutorial work with training responsibilities to support the development of expertise within the OPP.
