As our Principal Scientist - Engagement, you will:
Develop and lead engagement initiatives that enable the provision of scientific advice to a diverse range of stakeholders internally and externally focused on ensuring the efficient and effective eradication of Red Imported Fire Ant (RIFA). Establish a culture of generating scientific outcomes that are focused on being applied in the eradication of RIFA. Establish a comprehensive approach to RIFA genetics that encapsulates the end-to-end process from sampling through to an understanding of RIFA populations and tracing. Enable the continuation of diagnostic capabilities with the NFAEP and seek to create efficiencies through the use of emerging technologies to support the whole of NFAEP. Be proactive in engaging cross-functionally within the NFAEP and wider audience to ensure the continuation of world-class scientific advice delivery regarding the eradication of RIFA. Develop the professional skills of scientists through mentoring, identification of training opportunities and encouraging scientific publications to ensure a succession of high-quality scientists is established and maintained. Ensure a high standard of science and scientific outputs are maintained and reported/promoted through internal and external processes; and influence the adoption by industry of new technologies and practices. Establish channels for the exceptional work of our science team to be utilized by the internal NFAEP stakeholders through their work in the eradication of RIFA. Provide high-level scientific/technical advice and contribute to the review of NFAEP response plans for detections of RIFA and the assessment of RIFA biology and habitat to assist in NFAEP objectives. You may also have:
An understanding of or experience in agile ways of working. Experience or qualifications in a project management methodology such as PRINCE2. Demonstrated ability to lead and manage a functional unit, implement systems to promote performance management, ethical behaviour and professional development in collaboration with Senior Management. Manage projects and effectively lead a team to achieve agreed outcomes. Work effectively under pressure to handle competing priorities, meet externally imposed deadlines, and deliver tasks through to completion. Prepare complex reports and submissions and liaise and negotiate with clients and staff at all levels. Communicate effectively with internal and external clients to provide responsive, accurate and relevant information and services.
