You will be in a position where you will contribute to better outcomes for Queenslanders. You will develop and provide strategic advice and options on all aspects of program monitoring and evaluation planning in the Youth Justice Research and Evaluation team, including the preparation of evaluation reports and supporting submissions.
You will provide high level evaluation contract management, and effectively communicate team deliverables using visual tools such as infographics and diagrams to achieve the Department's strategic objectives in relation to delivering evidence-based interventions and programs for young people.
Youth Justice Research and Evaluation (YJR&E) is responsible for further developing the evidence-base to inform policy and program design that addresses offending behaviour and delivers better services to children, young people and families in Queensland. The team are responsible for developing monitoring and evaluation frameworks, working with program areas to develop program logics, undertaking internal program evaluations, and contract managing outsourced evaluation project. 
Key Responsibilities: As Principal Research and Evaluation Officer, you will specifically:
• Provide high quality evaluation advice, and lead workshops to develop evaluation
• Lead evaluation and monitoring projects using appropriate project management techniques, research and evaluation methodologies and data analysis tools.
• Prepare evaluation reports and provide timely, well researched briefings to a variety of audiences including senior management on evaluation findings, recommendations and any emerging issues impacting on Youth Justice.
• Undertake qualitative data collection, including focus groups, interviews, and surveys of staff, key stakeholders, and clients, to inform evaluations. 
• Undertake statistical analyses of both quantitative and qualitative data, to inform internal evaluations of Youth Justice policy, programs and practice initiatives.
• Develop procurement documentation for outsourced evaluations, including supplier contract management, milestone monitoring, managing review and approval of outputs, and project budget management. 
• Assist the Youth Justice Research Governance Group by providing advice on research and evaluation applications by external researchers to ensure they contribute to the Department's strategic direction.
• Undertake critical literature reviews and provide brief summaries of topics to a range of audiences.
• Excellent interpersonal manner, with strong stakeholder engagement skills. 
• Lead engagement with people from Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander backgrounds as well as demonstrate an appreciation of cultural protocols and an awareness of the impacts of historical policies and practices to ensure culturally appropriate evaluation and research.
