The Department of Lands, Planning and Environment Rangelands Division incorporates the Remote Sensing Unit which is responsible for the management and use of remotely sensed data for a range of scientific monitoring programs. This includes critical components of the integrated Rangeland Monitoring Program across the pastoral estate of the Northern Territory (NT), the Darwin Harbour Mangrove Monitoring Program, and the Territory Vegetation Extent Analysis program. As Principal Remote Sensing Officer, you will provide leadership to a team of remote sensing professionals and technicians delivering satellite and raster-based monitoring data products, mapping, and reporting. This includes coordinating remote sensing imagery processing methodologies to support monitoring of rangelands condition and mangroves land clearing across the Territory. It also includes overseeing the implementation of a new High Performance Computing server as a key component of the department's data infrastructure. Your key duties will include providing scientific advice on changing conditions of land and vegetation, coordinating analysis of remotely sensed data for the assessment of spatial and temporal changes, and compiling data and statistical reports to shape sustainable land management decisions. This is a key role in the Territory's land conservation and natural resource management, ensuring compliance with the Pastoral Land Act 1992 and Planning Act 1999 . Your tertiary qualifications in remote sensing, computer science, GIS, or equivalent and your knowledge of open source Python and Geographic Information System (GIS) software will be put to good use. As will your ability to assess and monitor natural resources using remote and ground-based methods and develop strong networks with key stakeholders, Traditional Owners, and people from diverse backgrounds. #J-18808-Ljbffr
