About the role As a Senior Project Officer, you will be required to provide technical support to execute remediation projects for complex environmental projects and/or engineering support for remediation and mine closure design and project execution. This includes tasks across a range of fields, such as technical, risk, and project-related activities, to support the advancement of the project in accordance with the Department of Resources Project Management Frameworks.
This is a fixed-term, full-time position, providing flexible working arrangements, work-life balance, and professional development opportunities located at Townsville, Charters Towers, or Cairns, QLD.
In this role you will: Work cooperatively with a wide range of technical specialists and provide support to the Project Manager and leadership team. Assist in the development and implementation of project management plans for nominated projects. Assist with scoping individual work packages, procurement and tendering, and contract management. Design, collect, assess, and interpret environmental and technical data. Develop technical specifications to engage consultants and contractors in line with departmental procurement processes. Prepare high-level technical advice and support to the Project Manager, Director, and Executive Director on technical issues relating to project deliverables. Maintain current knowledge of mining and resources issues, mine closure design, priorities, and best practice initiatives. Critically review engineering designs and technical specifications for abandoned mine remediation projects. Consult and communicate with project stakeholders and deliver upon negotiated consultation outcomes. Plan, commission, monitor, and interpret findings from technical investigations, studies, and field monitoring activities into a proposed project scope for management consideration. Interpret technical and other reports from a range of stakeholders and use them to guide project planning and risk management. Consult with administrative, management, regional staff, and other key stakeholders on project scope and development to build effective relationships and share expertise and knowledge. Prepare and/or organize the preparation of complex reports, submissions, briefing notes, presentations, speeches, publications, and correspondence. Incorporate project and operational risk assessment processes into management plans and be able to facilitate workshops to characterize relevant risks and controls. Provide assistance to field staff, to ensure supervision of consultants and contractors while on-site, ensuring they work in compliance with a person conducting a business or undertaking (PCBU) obligations, site HSEMP requirements, legislation, and other contractual and quality requirements. Other duties as directed and required. This position requires: A university degree from a recognized tertiary institution or overseas qualification recognition in a technical field (Environmental, Science, Engineering, etc) would be highly regarded Experience in the mining industry Demonstrated project management qualifications and experience Proven technical skills in the identification and management of impacts from resource development A current open C class driver license as stated in the Mandatory Requirements section Travel away from the center will be required. This may involve travel outside of normal office hours and/or overnight accommodation for extended periods Physical fitness is necessary for fieldwork in remote areas with rough terrain Mandatory requirements: Applicants must have a current open C class driver license.
