The Youth Detention Operational Support team is responsible for supporting best practice youth detention service delivery in Queensland.

Key Activities of the team include: Administering a range of statutory, corporate and operational reporting functions.Drafting a range of executive correspondence and briefing notes.Developing operational policy and procedures and providing high level input into legislative reform.Working on complex projects aimed at improving operational service delivery in youth detention centres.Job detailsPosition status: Fixed Term Temporary

The purpose of the Principal Practice Officer is to provide high level strategic advice and contribute to the development of evidence-based best practices for youth detention centres, undertake major projects, design and develop operational policy, and analyze youth detention trends and performance to achieve the department's strategic objectives in relation to youth justice.
As Principal Practice Officer, Youth Detention Operational Support you will: Prepare high level advice and reporting on a range of complex policy and practice issues relating to youth detention service delivery.Lead, coordinate, plan, implement and monitor progress of major projects and implementation of recommendations from inquiries and reviews relevant to the team's activities.Liaise and consult with other teams and various areas within the Department to identify practice issues and develop strategic and operational solutions.Represent and negotiate on behalf of the organization in external and internal discussions and relevant working groups about the development of practice initiatives and major youth detention-based projects that enhance and develop current practices.Coordinate and/or conduct research into youth detention matters and other practices which may affect the policy and operations of the department, including the analysis of findings and recommendations and identify appropriate courses of action.Provide high level expert advice and information to the Manager, Director and other key stakeholders pertaining to complex Youth Justice Service delivery issues and trends, presenting information for service delivery consideration, inclusive of advice pertaining to evidence-based practice and legislation interpretation.Work within a team environment, and if necessary as a team leader, to coordinate the activities of team members and contribute to the promotion of an accountable and equitable work environment as delegated by the Manager.Applications to remain current for 12 months.
