An exciting opportunity exists within the Disability, Inclusion and Student Services branch for a highly motivated Principal Policy Officer to be part of the department's Student Protection team.

The AO7 Principal Policy Officer position is a temporary part-time 0.8 FTE vacancy, available immediately and until 27 June 2025, unless otherwise determined.

About The Role

The Student Protection team is responsible for policies, procedures, resources, training, and advice relating to child and student protection, including student protection reporting, supporting students in out-of-home care, and child death reviews.

The responsibilities of the Principal Policy Officer, Student Protection, will include:


Providing expert advice on strategic policy issues, projects, and activities related to child and student protection and domestic and family violence.Undertaking research, analysis, monitoring, review, and evaluation of significant policies, project, and reform priorities.Establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships and networks, including coordinating and liaising with key staff, internal and external stakeholders to achieve outcomes and meet deadlines.Participating in and leading projects and aspects of the team's work to successfully develop strategic policy, guidelines, state-wide service delivery implementation, and program evaluation.Preparing and reviewing complex documentation, including policy and procedure documents, submissions, ministerial correspondence, and executive briefs. About You

The successful applicants will have the following key attributes:

Demonstrated excellent written and oral communication skills;Demonstrated ability to build and sustain effective working relationships with staff and external stakeholders and manage interactions with a diverse range of school, corporate, and regional staff and leadership;Demonstrated ability to effectively plan and manage projects, and produce documents with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail;Demonstrated excellent quantitative and qualitative research and data analysis skills;Ability to work as part of a high functioning team, meet deadlines, and function autonomously;Knowledge of or the ability to acquire knowledge of the department and applicable child protection, domestic and family violence, and education legislation, policies, and procedures.
