The role The Principal Policy Officer in the MHAOD Planning Unit manages, supports and contributes to the delivery of a range of programs and projects, primarily focused on service design, infrastructure, and planning for state-funded MHAOD services. You will be responsible for providing prompt advice and guidance to stakeholders and senior management on specific issues related to the service planning and strategy for the Queensland MHAOD sector. You will lead the development and implementation of the MHAOD Model of Care Framework to enable the development, maintenance, and endorsement of relevant models of care, and enable the delivery of projects, including infrastructure projects, through the use of project management skills and provision of expert subject matter and policy advice. Furthermore, you will liaise, consult, and develop networks and partnerships across a wide range of stakeholders, and actively contribute to the development of effective, innovative, and strategic health service planning to meet the diverse needs of individuals with mental health and substance use disorders.The successful person You will have demonstrated:Strong ability to manage system-wide and/or state-wide projects that are time-critical and achieve expected deliverables.High level policy, planning, and project management skills and the demonstrated ability to formulate and communicate strategic advice relevant to mental health alcohol and other drugs issues.Highly developed written, analytical, and research skills, including issue identification and effective problem-solving skills.Strong ability to develop sensitive and practical responses to complex issues.Highly developed communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills to enable effective interaction with stakeholders at all levels and an ability to negotiate, build relationships, and manage sensitive matters across a range of internal and external stakeholders.Strong understanding or demonstrated ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of the mental health and alcohol and other drug service system including the complex interrelationships within the government, non-government, and private sectors.About us The Department of Health is responsible for the overall management of the public health system in Queensland.
