This role is one which is rarely seen and will surely be gone in no time at all, so please be quick if you are interested!In your new, permanent role as Principal Planner - Development Assessment, you will step in and take a lead role in the technical oversight of Council's statutory planning and development duties, including the assessment of planning applications, provision of professional statutory planning advice and other functions pursuant to the relevant legislation and Planning Scheme/s or any other local planning instrument.As an experienced Planner, you will have great experience and insight into all phases of the Development Application and Assessment process and be ready to take on the following duties with gusto:Program and allocate the timely and successful management of all development assessment applications and associated compliance matters in accordance with statutory timeframes and as per council expectation for service delivery.Technical Skills and Expertise. Understand, interpret, administer and comply with relevant legislation and council policies applicable to the functions within the local government development assessment unit.Information Delivery. Produce and present consistently high standard and timely reports, submissions, correspondence and advice to internal and external clients relevant to disciplines within the unit.People Management. Supervise, motivate, develop, mentor and support work team and individual employees within the development assessment unit to achieve section and organisational goals.Business Improvement. Proactively support systems, process and people development opportunities that enhance either or both cultural and performance improvement.Training and Development. Actively participate in ongoing training and self-development to achieve continuous improvement for yourself and council.Safety. Taking reasonable care for health and safety of yourself and others, complying with reasonable instruction and co-operating with CHRC policy and procedure per 'Duties of Worker' contained in the Work Health and Safety Act as amended.MandatoryA record of high performance in the assessment of development applications for a diverse range of complex development proposals.Extensive experience in managing, reviewing and improving development assessment processes.Extensive professional town planning experience within Local Government or private sector.Experience in developing and achieving strategic goals and the ability to effectively manage change.Demonstrated experience in operating in politically sensitive environments.Expertise in negotiating positive outcomes with high level customers.Extensive knowledge of work activities, work practices and procedures relevant to the effective and efficient operations of a development assessment department.Demonstrated experience in undertaking business improvement initiatives across systems, processes and team management.Demonstrated experience in effectively leading and managing teams.Demonstrated experience identifying, managing and coordinating workloads consistent with operational KPIs.
