Leadership:
Take the lead in developing and managing a dedicated team of planning professionals, guiding them in the assessment of development applications to ensure sustainable, balanced, and timely outcomes. Use your coaching, role modelling, and performance management skills to foster a culture of growth, supporting each team member's professional and personal development as they achieve excellence in their roles.
Drive the management of development applications with strategic, informed decision-making that aligns with Council's goals, meets community expectations, and adheres to current planning legislation and guidelines. Lead your team to consistently achieve application timelines and key performance indicators, ensuring efficiency, accountability, and alignment with Council's vision.
Communication:
Deliver expert, high-quality advice and correspondence on development assessment matters to both internal and external stakeholders, ensuring exceptional customer service. This will involve interpreting legislation and policy, to support decision-making.
Play a key role in the ongoing enhancement of the Unit by reviewing and refining procedures and guidelines, contributing to budget and business plan development, and fostering strong communication both within the Unit and across other Council units. Your contributions will help drive continuous improvement and ensure seamless collaboration throughout the organization.
Professional Development:
Stay at the forefront of emerging trends and issues in land use and development assessment, ensuring the continuous growth and enhancement of the Unit's capabilities and expertise. Your proactive research and insights will drive innovation and help refine practices, enabling the Unit to remain adaptable and responsive to evolving industry standards.
What We're Looking For: As Principal Planner, your role is to deliver exceptional professional expertise within the Planning Assessment Unit as a key member of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team. As a senior team member, you will take the lead in managing complex development applications and providing strong leadership to support and elevate the team's performance.

You'll hold relevant or equivalent tertiary qualifications in town planning or Diploma in Local Government (Planning) and relevant professional experience. You'll have an Open Class C Driver's licence (Queensland) or equivalent.
