In the Asia Pacific region (SLR APAC), SLR has over 850 employees located throughout 24 offices.
Our globally integrated Mining Advisory Group includes Geologists, Mining Engineers, Metallurgists, Geotechnical Engineers, Civil Engineers, and Environmental Scientists with extensive experience in the mining and exploration industries.
With team members in Australia, USA, Canada, Europe and Africa, SLR's Mining Advisory Group provides advisory services to the mining sector at all stages of project development from exploration and resource evaluation through scoping, prefeasibility and feasibility studies, financing, permitting, construction, operation, and closure and rehabilitation.
We provide support to major mining companies, mid-caps, junior mining and exploration companies, financial institutions, governments, law firms and individual investors on the technical and commercial aspects of mineral property development and have extensive experience in all commodities and mining areas of the world.
SLR is seeking an experienced Principal Mining Engineer with circa 15+ years' experience to join our APAC Mining Advisory team. Our team is well established from a global perspective and growing from a local perspective in Australia.
You will work closely with our global team alongside two Principal Resource Geologists in our Perth office.
We expect the team to continue to expand in 2025.
In addition to strong technical skills, you'll also have strong communication skills, and be able to deliver clear findings through meetings, technical reports, and presentations to both technical and non-technical people.
You will have a broad understanding of the mining industry and the interplay of sector's technical, environmental, scientific, and financial disciplines.

Maintaining industry leading standards for mining engineering workLeading and developing mine designs based on the information gathered or provided, depending upon the needs of the client and the scope of the project assignedOpen Pit optimization (using Whittle or similar software) and mine design, life-of-mine scheduling and Mineral Reserve estimation using current mine planning and scheduling software packagesEstimation of project capital and operating costs and financial modelling and analysisEconomic Assessments, scoping, prefeasibility, and feasibility studiesAssessment, due diligence and technical auditing/review of mines and projectsProject managementReport writing and client presentationsDrive business development in APAC with your well-established network in the industryThis is a unique opportunity to bring your expertise to a highly engaged team, where your efforts and impact will be recognized and valued immensely.
Experience
As our new Principal Mining Engineer, you will join one of the largest, and most experienced mining advisory teams globally.
The successful candidate will have the following attributes:Post-secondary degree in mining engineeringCirca 15 years' experience, preferably with some in consulting.Familiar with international and public disclosure and reporting codes, including JORC, NI 43-101, SK 1300, SAMREC, Competent Persons Reports, and Mineral Expert Reports etc.Extensive experience with mine planning at an operational mineExpert user of at least one industry standard optimization, mine design and scheduling software package such as Datamine, Deswik, Vulcan, Surpac, and WhittleThorough understanding of the CRISCO reporting codesRegistered as a Professional EngineerCompetent to act as Qualified and Competent Person for public disclosure of Mineral and Ore Reserve estimation in a range of commodities under country reporting codes (Australia, Canada, USA and Europe most common)Willingness to travel.
Travel requirements vary but a typical team member may carry out 3 to 6 domestic or international trips of 3 to 7 days in duration on an annual basis.Working knowledge or fluency in any of Spanish/French/Portuguese languages would be advantageous Our Benefits
