Mining - Engineering & Maintenance (Mining, Resources & Energy) Full time The Eva Copper Mine (ECM) is located in North West Queensland approximately 75km north-west of Cloncurry. The greenfield Eva Copper Mine Project is a significant and strategically important project for Harmony Gold Mining Company Pty Ltd. The Project will be the largest mining operation in North West Queensland with a minimum mine life of 15 years, and will involve mining multiple open cut pits providing copper bearing ore to a concentrator. The project is permitted, and the mine site will include development of these pits, a copper concentrator, associated processing and non-processing services and infrastructure including tailings storage facilities, waste rock dumps, water management facilities, power generation and an accommodation village.
Harmony is the largest gold producer, by volume, in South Africa owning and operating numerous mining and tailings retreatment operations. Harmony also owns and operates the Hidden Valley Mine in Papua New Guinea including holding 50% (Joint Venture with Newmont) in the Tier 1 Wafi-Golpu copper-gold project. These Papua New Guinea assets together with the Eva Copper Mine Project supported by the Harmony Australasia corporate office located in Milton, Brisbane.
Harmony is currently preparing to progress the Execution Phase of the Eva Copper Mine Project in support of achieving near term 1st production and are seeking highly motivated and experienced people to join our growing project delivery and operations teams. The Execution Phase will commence with front-end engineering and design, and in parallel preliminary site works will also be progressed in support of full project execution post final investment decision. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of defining, building and operating a major forward-facing metal mining operation that will offer employment opportunities across the project life cycle, from project definition and delivery into operations.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the Principal Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for providing high level technical support and supervision in relation to the mechanical and piping design of the Eva Copper Mine project across all scope elements.
Responsibilities include: Ensure all site mechanical activities are carried out in accordance with site safety policies and procedures.Demonstrate safe work behaviours that provide a leadership example for others.Provide input into the strategic and technical direction of the project engineering team.Supervise and monitor the activities of contractors performing any mechanical engineering works on the Eva Copper project.Maintain and foster relationships with contractors and EPC partners.Develop, plan and implement effective analysis, design and technical integrity to provide expert guidance and advice in relation to the design and delivery of mechanical engineering services.Ensure adequacy of design and completion of its verification before release.Review scope of work, quality activities, specifications and contract documents for inclusion in the project plan.Support with the development of the operational readiness plan.Reinforce systems and procedures to ensure all mechanical engineering projects comply with conditions and parameters set out in project scopes of works.Manage the allocation of physical and human resources to ensure all mechanical engineering projects are completed on time and within budget.Establishing the foundation of the site engineering, reliability and planning functions in terms of standards, processes, procedures, and information management.Assist with supervision of engineering and contractor site work as required.Monitor progress and expenditure associated with mechanical engineering activities and make decisions or recommendations as required to minimise any variance to budget.Provide budget inputs for capital and operating cost updates.Maintain a Quality Management System and have an internal quality control in place to provide consistent and accurate services and advice.What you will bring to Harmony: Minimum 15 years' experience in design, engineering & commissioning of Mechanical engineering projects.Degree in Mechanical Engineering.C Class Drivers Licence.Registered Professional Engineer of Queensland or ability to obtain registration.Ability to work collaboratively and proactively manage interfaces within a multi-disciplinary team.Location
This role will be based at our Brisbane project office during the project design phase with travel to site as required. The role may be required to transition to site once construction commences, with the option of residential in Cloncurry or FIFO from Brisbane or Townsville. The FIFO roster is 8 days on, 6 days off.
