Aurukun State School is located within the Department's Far North Queensland education region. The school's approximately 219 students with diverse learning needs and interests across Prep to Year 12 and State Delivered Kindy program are provided with access to a curriculum that allows them to reach their own individual potential.

The Community Aurukun is a culturally proud community and one of the larger communities in the cape. Aurukun is a short one-hour 35 minute flight from the major hub of Cairns and is nestled in native title land, and the traditional homelands of the Wik, Wik Waya and Kugu people.
The community values education within and outside of the classroom, and works in partnership with school staff to support positive educational outcomes for its children and young people. The school have an active Local Community Education Board who meet regularly with the Principal to provide advice on the direction and priorities for the school.
The Opportunity Aurukun State School  is seeking an experienced and passionate educational leader to step into the role of Principal.
