Legal Officer Grade VI $154,840 - $158,102 plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

About the role

The Principal Legal Officer conducts highly complex and routine legal matters (advice, transaction and litigation) and provides professional supervision and mentoring of Legal Officers, including where assigned, co-ordination and allocation of workloads within the General Counsel directorate to ensure the provision of high quality, cost effective and client focused legal services which contribute to the achievement of the strategic priorities and goals of the General Counsel Directorate and the wider OCG.
We are seeking a motivated, resilient and experienced senior legal officer to perform the following: Provide the highest level of legal services, advocacy and advice to senior management and employees in accordance with legislative requirements, policies, procedures, guidelines, precedents and practice standards.
Manage the most complex, contentious and sensitive matters and provide clear instructions liaising closely with the Crown Solicitor and Counsel in relation to matters before Courts and Tribunals.
Supervise legal matters in accordance with relevant policies, procedures and guidelines in order to ensure high service standards are met, while developing employees and providing professional direction to ensure the delivery of quality legal services within the General Counsel directorate.
Develop and review the most complex and sensitive legal documents including legal records, correspondence, reports, submissions, briefing notes, contracts and other matters allocated.

Key knowledge and experience

Extensive knowledge and experience in administrative law matters, as well as demonstrated ability to provide advice in complex litigation matters.
Highly developed critical thinking and analytical skills, including excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated strong collaboration and leadership skills with the ability to motivate team to achieve key deliverables in a fast-paced working environment.

Essential Requirements

A law degree or equivalent and admitted as a legal practitioner by the Supreme Court of NSW is essential.
Employment at the Office of the Children's Guardian is subject to the satisfactory completion of security and vetting checks.
All roles associated with the Office of the Children's Guardian are required to have a current Working with Children Check.
