Come and be a part of this success. About the Role Strategic legal adviser and thought partner to the Chief Legal, Governance and External Affairs Officer (CLGEAO). Accountable for directly supporting CLGEAO with functional governance and integrity requirements and delivering core strategic projects that advance the global External Affairs agenda and coordinating core Functional activities. An integral part of the EA Operations team, the purpose of the EA Operations team is to enable and amplify the impact of our EA team. Coordinate Executive Leadership Team (ELT), CEO and Board routines requiring EA input, specifically with paper, report and presentation development. Review and where necessary support drafting of key Board, Committee and ELT papers, and reports, covering subject matter across all EA subject areas, providing input from both a strategic and legal perspective. Support CLGEAO preparation for ELT, CEO and Board Routines. Perform both strategic and technical legal review of major contracts, publications and other Functional materials items submitted for CLGEAO review and approval. Apply an understanding of terms and conditions, laws, regulations and guidelines when conducting day-to-day work activities to reduce likelihood of financial/reputational risk and liabilities. Develop speeches, emails, talking notes, announcements and presentations for both internal and external engagements, and plan strategic engagements to maintain a public (internal and external) profile for the CLGEAO. Provide strategic thought partnerships and insights on EA agenda, portfolio, priorities and focus areas. Source information, plans and conducts analyses to support evidence-based decision making. Own and lead initiatives, core strategic projects and events on behalf of the CLGEAO as required to drive the EA agenda forward. Support interface between CLGEAO office and other key stakeholders (including Planners of other EALT members), helping to connect and integrate EALT members, sharing information, and identifying opportunities and synergies. Support CLGEAO schedule (including extensive travel) and assist CLGEAO with prioritisation of commitments and confidential assignments. Support the establishment and embedment of EALT engagement rhythms & routines and coordination (i.e. ensuring alignment at EALT). Support internal team connections within the EA Function (i.e. Town Halls, team development, knowledge sharing sessions etc.) Integrating with the EA Operations team to ensure that the CLGEAO vision and priorities are integrated in activities and brought to life. Apply an understanding of the business context, BHP operating model and ways of working to enhance decision making, productivity and value chain performance. Make evidence based and strategic decisions in alignment with longer term business objectives, makes risk informed decisions, uses BHP's risk management framework, and build a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes. About You Law degree or equivalent Certification to practice law in Australia. 8-10+ years PQE legal experience Experience working in a large multi-national organisation, top-tier law firm, or consulting firm, ideally with experience across cultures and regions. Strong commercial, business and strategic acumen. Proven track record of engaging and influencing at senior levels. Excellent written and oral communication skills and aptitude for analysing and synthesising complex information to derive quality insight. A track record of providing quality information, insights and legal advice in a comprehensive, succinct and compelling manner in a dynamic environment to senior executives. Ability to engage with senior executives on complex legal and strategic challenges and to influence stakeholders at all levels. Very strong interpersonal skills. Excellent people skills, engagement and communication, high energy levels, and an action orientated attitude tempered by simplicity. Able to demonstrate strong critical reasoning and analytics skills, quickly grasp technical concepts and apply theories. Able to find creative solutions to complex problems, considering the full spectrum of issues, risks and opportunities. Energetic and driven, able to work well under pressure bringing attention to detail and an ability to meet multiple and competing deadlines. Excellent understanding or issues and risks impacting the Company and the External Affairs professions.
