In this role, you will:
contribute to the effective functioning of the Legal team and the commission, with a particular focus on the provision of strategic legal advice on a diverse range of matters, encompassing general operational advice, administrative law and statutory interpretation.frequently engage with senior internal stakeholders including commissioners and the executive team, effectively communicating risks and legal issues involved in commission decisions.supervise and mentor junior lawyers within the team, including the settling of written advice.This is an exciting time to join the commission.
Following new commissioner appointments last year, we are in full swing of planning for the next phase of delivering on our statutory functions to provide fair and equitable outcomes for Victorian consumers in relation to essential services.

This role is open to full-time and part-time candidates and provides a chance to expand your legal skills into new areas, including energy, water, and the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.

The position is responsible for:
providing and overseeing the consistent delivery of practical, strategic legal advice on a diverse range of matters, including pertaining to the regulation of energy, water and the Victorian Energy Upgrades program.collaborating across the commission on strategic initiatives and projects, providing legal guidance and expertise and effectively communicating risks and legal issues involved in commission decisions.undertaking legal review of a range of documentation including commission and committee papers, publications and legal instruments.supporting the Director, Legal to drive the delivery of best practice legal advice and guidance, ensuring the legal services provided by the team are high-quality and practical.While subject matter experience is valued, we also value lawyers with good generalist skills who will be a good cultural fit for our small and adaptive team.
