Your New Role We have an opportunity for an individual to join our Legal Operations team as Principal Lawyer on a full-time, 12-month fixed term basis. Reporting to the Director - Legal Operations, the role will be responsible for providing legal advice and support to the Operations Division and other divisions on all legal matters associated with investigations. The Principal Lawyer will also be required, from time to time, to provide authoritative and technical legal advice, particularly in relation to evidentiary thresholds, coercive powers and other specialist investigative tools.
Duties Include: Ensure customer service and legal related activities are relevant, accurate, timely and in accordance with industry standards (best practice).Provide complex legal advice, including liaising and negotiating with stakeholders, to support IBAC and its business units meet their statutory obligations.Professionally and promptly manage and resolve more complex work-related issues through to resolution; support constructive working relationships and act as a role model, modelling ethical behaviours and values.Provide day to day leadership, guidance and development to less experienced lawyers and legal support staff.Additional duties are set out in the position description.
Experience and Capabilities: Significant knowledge of or the ability to quickly acquire knowledge of IBAC's obligations pursuant to the relevant legislation and Acts.Bachelor of Laws or equivalent legal qualification from a recognised tertiary institution.A minimum of 7 years' post qualification experience. Experience in regulatory law, litigation, investigations, or criminal law is preferred.Due to the requirement to attain a Negative Vetting 1 security clearance candidates must be an Australian citizen at the time of application.
