Be a part of the Legal Branch with this exciting permanent opportunity based in Brisbane.
Reporting to a Senior Principal Lawyer, play a critical role working on allocated legal requests collaboratively with clients and collegiately with other lawyers, including briefing external lawyers.
You will be responsible for communicating effectively, clearly and succinctly with a diverse client group, in a variety of settings, with legal accuracy and a practical, fit for purpose, customer focus.
You will also help develop and maintain positive relationships, build appropriate networks and supervise and mentor members of Legal Branch, including paralegals and junior lawyers.
The successful person You must hold a Bachelor of Laws degree and admission, or eligibility for immediate admission, as a barrister, solicitor or legal practitioner of the Supreme Court of Queensland.It is highly desirable that you have a minimum 5 years post admission experience, preferably practising corporate and commercial law (including contract drafting and negotiation; procurement; ICT; clinical research; IP; funding; property; construction; infrastructure and other major projects; insurance; joint venture advisory), noting successful applicants will be required to assist the workload of other streams from time to time. The other streams are:Public and administrative law, human rights, health regulatory, and knowledge of the Queensland Health portfolio legislationHealth and other information management (including confidentiality, privacy and information access schemes)Workplace, industrial relations and WHSLitigation in Courts and Tribunals, alternative dispute resolution, commissions of inquiry and coronial inquestsAbout us The Department of Health is responsible for the overall management of the public health system in Queensland. Legal Branch forms part of the Corporate Services Division within Queensland Health (the Department). The Department's Legal Branch is responsible for providing legal services to the Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services and Minister for Women, the Director-General and Deputy Directors-General and other Departmental offices and business units.
