We are seeking an experienced, motivated and passionate Principal Hydrogeologist to join the Western Australian Iron Ore Water Planning Team.
This is a technical lead role where you will have the opportunity to work with a diverse team of enthusiastic and passionate hydrogeologists, groundwater modellers and engineers to deliver a diverse portfolio of mine water management projects, including dewatering, depressurisation and surplus water management investigations, mine closure and poor water quality studies, and environmental impact assessments.
You will also support the team through mentoring, work scoping and review, problem solving, and working closely with our many stakeholders to ensure our projects are delivered to the required scope and schedule.

BHP has adopted Water Stewardship as a global company priority. As a technical lead in the Water Planning team, you will play a key role in ensuring we deliver water management plans that align with BHP's stewardship position.
In this role you will:
Use your extensive hydrogeology and mine water management experience to help the team develop effective, cost-efficient and environmentally conscious mine water management plans.Provide expert technical leadership and work review which ensures the delivery of quality products and develops the team's technical and communication skills.Have an excellent understanding of risk and uncertainty, how it affects the development of our water management plans, and how to manage and communicate it.Work with our Water Operations teams to help embed leading operational water management practices, drawing on best practice from across the mining and water management industries.Use your experience of mining and investment process to help develop clear business cases for our water infrastructure projects.Lead improvement projects and liaise as required with technical consultants and other external organisations.Support the team Superintendent by providing step-up leadership coverage during periods of leave, and for meetings and regular team routines.About YouThe successful candidate will ideally possess the following skills and experience:
A tertiary qualification in Hydrogeology, Geoscience, Engineering or Environmental Science, with post graduate study/qualifications in Hydrogeology (or related discipline) highly regarded.Extensive experience of working in mining and / or in a similar role.Expert knowledge of groundwater occurrence, flow, chemistry, and the properties of hydrostratigraphic units in the Pilbara and the development of hydrogeological conceptual models which support impact assessment, dewatering, surplus water management, geotechnical risk, and mine water supply.Experience of making hydrogeological predictions to support dewatering and surplus water plans, and impact assessments, using different techniques and considering uncertainty.Demonstrated work planning and coordination skills, with the ability to autonomously manage delivery of own and others work.Exceptional interpersonal and teamwork skills, with the ability to influence across multiple stakeholders, and lead by example to foster a high-performing, supportive and respectful team culture.Be a natural team player with a passion to develop and mentor hydrogeologists and other Water Planning team members through their technical and professional careers.Location This position is based in Perth, with travel to the Pilbara as required.
