The Town of Port Hedland is located 1,765 kilometres north of Perth in the Pilbara. It is home to a growing and diverse community of approximately 17,000 people, with a vision of developing into a thriving, resilient and inclusive community for all. It boasts uniquely beautiful beaches and mangroves that are home to an abundance of fish, whales, bottlenose dolphins, and the annual migration of flatback sea turtles. The two main residential centres, Port and South Hedland, offer a range of community services including cultural, recreational, and shopping facilities.
A rare opportunity has presented itself to appoint an experienced Manager to the role of Principal Health, Safety and Wellbeing.
The Principal Health Safety and Wellbeing will oversee the implementation, compliance, and management of the Town's Health Safety and wellness strategy and WHS Management System while actively promoting employee wellbeing and a safe workplace culture. This position will also be responsible for providing advice, coaching, and support across the organisation and its multiple workplace sites, providing safety leadership, leading the Health Safety and Wellness partners, and overseeing inspections, audits, workers compensation claims, and injury management.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Manage effective rehabilitation programs to ensure an early and successful return to work for injured employees.Experience conducting workplace health and safety audits and workplace inspections with action plans.Coordinate the development of a comprehensive WHS training program for management, staff, and contractors.Monitor trends of incidents and provide reports on incident statistics to management and the WHS committee.Develop and implement corporate WHS policies, procedures, and work instructions as required.It is essential that you have:
Tertiary qualifications in Workplace Health and Safety and/or a related field.Extensive knowledge and experience of the WHS Act 2020, Workers' Compensation, and Injury Management Act 2023.This is an exceptional career opportunity with a Band 1 classified council in Western Australia that is financially stable and positioned for significant development and growth.
