THE OPPORTUNITY: Responsible for the coordination of medical services and treatment, management of injuries, rehabilitation and return to work programs for work related and non-work-related illness & injuries. Providing expert assistance and advice to the operations on all health-related matters.
Overall responsibility for workers compensation claims, liaising with key stakeholders to ensure claim progression and optimum outcomes for the injured worker and the organisation. Responsibility for all external contractors and agencies involved in the provision of care, including coordination of the medical service providers, the Insurer and external Vocational Rehabilitation providers. Subject matter expert for managing and directing strategy for complex case management to drive continuous improvement.
Responsible for the application of the injury classification framework, drawing on the injury phenomenon to support the decision-making process. Establishment of a clear and transparent verification process will be essential in this process to demonstrate compliance and consistency. Responsible for executing the regulatory requirements of this role, this includes Injury Reporting as defined by DMIR's to ensure the organisation meet their reporting requirements.
Demonstrating improvements to injury reporting and injury management ensuring clear processes and return to work outcomes are communicated with the organisation will be inherent to this role.
This is a permanent full-time position which operates from our West Perth Office with adhoc travel to our Pilgangoora Operations site.
Key responsibilities include but are not limited to: Coordination of Medical Services Management of allied health professionals to deliver a high standard of medical care demonstrating consistency within their scope of practice.Management of Poisons Permit to meet regulatory requirements, includes oversight of Audit and where required, implementation of Audit recommendations. (Storage and administration of schedule 2,4 and 8 medications).Management and oversight of all work-related injuries to ensure high standards of care are achieved, from initial assessment to case closure.Continuous review of current practice specific to assessment and treatment of injuries to identifying areas of improvements which is evidence-based and relevant to remote site working. Continuous review of Process and Procedures to ensure alignment of practice and compliance requirements are met. Injury Management and classification Oversight of all workplace injury rehabilitation through proactive medical management to ensure the implementation of appropriate and timely return-to-work programs.Management of injury/ Illness Classification aligned with OSHA criteria. Includes the application of injury phenomena to determine an appropriate evidence-based outcome (Event, diagnostics/ investigations and confirmation of diagnosis).Development and execution of a clear and transparent verification process for all OSHA Classifications to demonstrate consistency of application.Implementation of a rigorous reporting system to ensure completeness of injury data and outcomes to ensure accuracy of injury/ illness reports.Reporting of injuries to DMIR's aligned to the Reporting Requirements.Continuous review of Process and Procedures to ensure alignment of practice.Support leaders in the effective implementation of the business Injury Management System.Fitness for Work Provide expert advice and management on non-work-related/ non-compensable injuries/ illness and complex Fitness For Work cases.To work with key personnel to manage complex cases. (Employee Relations/ Human Resources) to plan strategy and optimize outcomes.Continuous review of Guidelines and Procedures to manage Fitness for Work. Workers Compensation Oversight of all Workers' Compensation claims, which includes:New claims – review and assessment of liability (to consider pre-existing medical conditions aggravated by work activities).Open and Accepted claims – undertake regular claim reviews to progress recovery and return to Pre-injury duties.Long Term claims – to undertake regular reviews with high-cost claims and agree strategy and outcome with the InsurerThe application of a risk-based approach for all serious injuries where Common Law may be a significant and potential outcome. This will require liaison with the Insurer and Legal representatives to plan strategy deliver an outcome which meets the needs of all key stakeholdersTo develop strategies to monitor claim costs and optimize outcomes. Act as a key contact for employees, internal stakeholders, external treatment providers, allied health professionals and the Insurer.Ensure communication to all relevant personnel on the medical & return to work status of injured employees/ contractors to promote a positive outcome.To ensure currency of understanding and interpretation of the Workers' Compensation and Injury Management Act to inform and update current practice.
