Database Development & Administration (Information & Communication Technology)Within the NHVR's Digital Enablement Unit, the Principal GIS Data Specialist will work in the spatial program and is responsible for developing and delivering quality and timely spatial data products for strategic projects and business functions.Key responsibilities include:Actively develop, maintain and administer evolving backend solutions that utilise PostgreSQL, Python on PaaS infrastructure in Microsoft Azure.Review database systems and related GIS desktop processes, including the monitoring of issues and improvement suggestions raised by stakeholders.Mentor and guide GIS Support Officers by creating desktop / database tools and processes to ensure quality and consistency in data products.Develop solutions that embrace CI/CD principles that utilise Git and Azure DevOps Pipelines.In conjunction with the QA and Release Lead & Architect; deploy, administer and monitor components of the solution with a disciplined Infrastructure as Code (IAC) approach using Azure release pipelines.Facilitate effective two-way communication streams with stakeholder groups and act as a conduit between stakeholders and Project Manager.Provide advice to the team regarding techniques and best practice when working with spatial data to solve business problems.Document all design, code and procedures to ensure we have sufficient information in a Wiki for business continuity and education.What's on OfferRostered days off and additional leave over the Christmas closure – 7 weeks of leave per year!Hybrid work arrangements – work from home two days per weekOngoing training and professional development supportAccess to wellbeing programs including Fitness Passport and discounted health insuranceAccess to salary packaging including novated leaseFree membership with Women in Technology and Women in DigitalAbout YouThe successful candidate will have:5+ years' experience as a GIS Data SpecialistExperience using JIRA (or a similar tool) in an Agile-FrameworkDegree in Computer Science, GIS, Science or related Technology disciplineExtensive experience working with a range of desktop and web-based GIS tools from a range of vendorsQualifications and/or relevant training in data analysis software packagesProven experience working with enterprise relational databases containing large datasets; PostgreSQL + Flyway would be highly regardedExperience utilising highly disciplined practices (Git, Agile-Scrum, IAC & CI/CD)Able to develop Python scripts and web services that administer, monitor and serve GIS dataBe comfortable and adept working in the cloud with experience of Azure, Amazon, PaaS, and SaaSApplication ProcessWe look forward to receiving your application, including CV and cover letter.Applications close 11:55pm, 24 November 2024.
