The Role: As a Principal Consultant, you will be primarily responsible for working with our clients & team to provide solutions, solve problems, and deliver work at an operational and leading consulting level. You should have significant recent experience in the management of approval project processes, coordination of Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA's) and other public documents to National and International standards, as well as advisory reports to clients.
Location & Work Details: This is a full-time role, reporting to the Manager of Environmental Services based in Brisbane. It is Perth-based, with some requirements for domestic and international travel ad hoc as needed.
Key Responsibilities: Co-ordinate and manage Environmental Impact Assessments; Provide strategic project approval advice; Compile and edit environmental technical studies, and other technical and advisory reports for clients; Scope and manage multiple technical studies at one time, including: Technical scoping to meet desired project outcomes; Project scheduling to meet milestones and delivery dates; Skill selection to meet quality requirements of a given brief. Manage multidisciplinary teams to meet specified project goals; Administer contracts and scopes of work to other consultants and contractors; Plan and manage studies and associated sub-tasks; Smoothly and proactively manage project changes; Manage several complex projects in parallel; Market MEC and develop business opportunities; Manage clients and client expectations; Develop a credible and trusting relationship with clients; Liaise with regulators and statutory authorities, both State and Federal; Liaise with land and business owners, and public stakeholders; Deliver projects to all three of the following key performance indicators: Quality of outcome; Timing of milestones, final deliverables; Budgets. Experience Required: The Principal Consultant Environment must have demonstrated experience in the practical interpretation and application of the following legislation, with ideally 15+ years of experience in a resources sector setting:
Queensland Legislation (EP Act, SDPWO Act, MER(Financial Provisioning) Act and MR Act); Northern Territory Legislation (Environment Assessment Act, Mining Management Act); Commonwealth Legislation (Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act). Practical knowledge of the following legislation would be beneficial:
Queensland Legislation (Planning Act and SSRC Act); Northern Territory Legislation (Water Act); Technical: Great interpersonal communication and report-writing skills; Be honest, ethical and able to maintain confidentiality; Maintain composure and maturity under all circumstances and remain solution-focused; Ability to work autonomously under legislative guidelines and implement quality solutions; Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook are essential; Strong analytical ability and strategic capability to deliver for our clients. Business and Leadership: Hold a track record of coaching and mentoring a team of engineers to deliver quality outcomes; Extensive professional relationships within the mining industry; A talent for managing client relationships and business development; Excellent stakeholder management skills; Proven record in self-managing projects; Due consideration of corporate governance imperatives in the client organisation and industry expectations. Qualifications: Formal qualifications in environmental management, science or engineering disciplines are required, degree preferred.
