In this role you will provide specialist technical expertise relating to the design, construction, maintenance and operation of the road network concentrating on the application of traffic signals and intelligent transport systems to improve capacity, reduce congestion and maintain safety.
Our Arterial & Motorway Optimisation team is part of the Statewide Network Operations (SNO) Branch, and our objective is to operate and optimise the road network to safely and efficiently move people and goods.
As a Principal Engineer (Traffic) your responsibilities will include:
Project manage the development and implementation of complex traffic management systems, technologies, and analysis.Provide advice and where required provide submissions and briefs on all aspects of road network signalised and un-signalised intersections, and other active traffic management systems such as smart motorways.Apply all relevant standards, policies, guidelines and legislative requirements necessary to support responsible decisions and courses of action for the operation and effective usage of the road traffic infrastructure and control systems.Identify and manage networks and alliances of all stakeholders, manage the expectations and issues of all parties, including identifying possible political and high risk matters to ensure they are dealt with in a timely and professional manner.Work with and maintain close relationships with PDO regions/districts as well as PMD, RoadTek, local government, other government agencies and jurisdictions, industry and stakeholders to ensure network performance gains.Supervise a multi-disciplinary team to ensure all members are appropriately skilled and utilised and deliver outcomes that support the branch's objectives and strategic priorities.To thrive in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:
Significant experience in traffic engineering, including analytical modelling (SIDRA, microsimulation, etc.
), Intelligent Transport Systems, and traffic management systems and standards.Strong analytical and technical skills to foster continuous improvement in the efficiency of systems and technologies.Well-developed interpersonal and communications skills coupled with the ability to articulate complex problems and solutions to a variety of audiences and to gain commitment from key stakeholders to support ideas or take action.Foster a working environment which exemplifies professionalism in performance, integrity and respect for people while building team capability by sharing learning and mentoring and coaching other staff.Proactively builds long-term working relationships with partners inside and outside the department.Mandatory qualifications and conditions:
A criminal history check will be undertaken prior to appointment to the role.Possession of a degree in civil engineering or equivalent engineering qualification which is acceptable for corporate membership of Engineers Australia.Registration as a Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ).Current holder of Class C driver's license.So why join us?
