Role OverviewAs the Principal Electrical Engineer, you will play a key role in the electrical design and delivery for data center projects across the region. Your work will involve guiding projects from initial concept through to detailed design and construction, ensuring that all electrical systems meet the highest standards for safety, quality, and operational efficiency.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the end-to-end electrical design process for data center projects, ensuring design integrity from concept through to the completion of construction documentation.Maintain oversight and governance of the electrical design process to ensure it meets regulatory standards and project objectives.Collaborate closely with the high-voltage delivery team to ensure smooth integration of electrical infrastructure and successful commissioning.Work with external stakeholders such as contractors, suppliers, and design consultants to meet the project's electrical specifications and ensure smooth handover.Coordinate with internal teams, including development, design, and operations, to provide guidance on equipment selection, design development, and risk mitigation strategies.Assist the commissioning team by resolving any design-related issues that arise during the testing and commissioning phases.Contribute to ongoing safety and quality improvements, ensuring that all designs meet the safety and operational needs of the projects.Key ActivitiesOversee external contractors during the development of electrical designs, ensuring that submissions meet project specifications and proceed smoothly through all project phases.Review contractor design submissions for potential risks and discrepancies with technical specifications, identifying opportunities for optimization.Work closely with the design and peer review teams to resolve any design challenges that may arise during the project lifecycle.Collaborate with internal teams to optimize design concepts and equipment selection to support successful project execution.Partner with cost management teams to identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering, while maintaining project integrity.Participate in safety reviews and design workshops to address and mitigate potential risks in both the construction and operation phases of the project.Conduct site inspections as necessary to ensure that electrical installations conform to the approved designs and standards.Qualifications10+ years of experience in electrical design and construction, with a preference for expertise in data center projects or similarly complex facilities.Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, or equivalent qualification.Proficiency in electrical protection and grading studies.Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with a focus on delivering high-quality outcomes.Strong decision-making skills and a commitment to taking ownership of project outcomes.Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex electrical designs to a variety of stakeholders.TravelThis position is based in Sydney, with occasional travel required to data center sites across the region and overseas as needed.
