Merit List/Pools and How They Will Be Used
Applicants suitable for the role but not offered the position for the current vacancy may be placed in a merit list or pool. If the applicant agrees, the results may be shared with other Australian Public Service (APS) agencies for filling similar roles. Applicants may be offered a future role without the need to reapply. A merit list or pool may be used for up to 18 months. This merit list/pool may be used to fill other vacancies anywhere in Australia.

Key Duties of the Position Include:
Provide expert professional economic support (economic advice, carry out both qualitative and quantitative analysis, guidance, and research) to the ACCC.
Prepare written papers, reports, presentations, speeches, and submissions on economic issues for presentation within the ACCC, to the Commission, and external parties.
Liaise with staff, Commissioners, and external advisers on economic issues and projects as required.
Work collaboratively with teams to employ economic frameworks to assist in investigations and enforcement of the Competition and Consumer Act 2010.
Manage work processes to ensure a high standard of work output.
Contribute to the direction of the Economic Group.
Provide leadership and guide Senior Economists in their provision of economic advice and mentor them in their development.
About You
In order to succeed in the role, you will have:
Demonstrated experience and/or expertise in competition economics or the ability to demonstrate understanding and application of the economic frameworks relevant to competition economics.
Sound knowledge of the ACCC's role in administering the Competition and Consumer Act 2010 and the economic principles relevant to this.
Communication skills including the ability to present in a clear, concise, and persuasive manner.
Capacity to work effectively autonomously as well as cooperatively in a team environment.
Ability to achieve strong results, showing self-motivation, organization skills, collaboration, and personal responsibility for the accuracy and quality of work produced.
An honours degree in Economics. More advanced degrees are desirable, as are demonstrated training and experience in industrial organization, applied microeconomics, econometrics, or equivalent disciplines.
Principal Economists would typically have at least seven or more years' experience as an economic adviser and be capable of leading the provision of economic advice to projects, under the general oversight of the ACCC's Chief Economist and Deputy Chief Economists.
