We are a small agency with a big remit. We work hard, we support each other closely, and we spend a lot of time listening to the communities we serve and helping Kimberley businesses, industries and communities achieve their development goals.
Most people working at KDC are formally employed by DPIRD under a service agreement between the two agencies. KDC works closely with DPIRD and other regional development commissions as part of the regional development portfolio.
The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) lead the sustainable development of Western Australia's regions and agriculture, aquaculture, food and fisheries sectors. In everything we do, we take an approach to protect, grow and innovate WA's economy, community and environment.
About the opportunity There is currently one (1) permanent position available for immediate filling. 
We are looking for a Principal Economist with at least 5 years professional experience to lead KDC's work marshalling economic data and analysis to help the Kimberley achieve a more prosperous and resilient future.
Working with a multidisciplinary team of development professionals, you will have lead responsibility for delivery of economic advice on Kimberley development issues within government, and for presentation of economic analysis to the Kimberley community.
This will include research and analysis on key indicators of economic and social development; preparation of internal briefings and external reports; collaboration across the community and the regional development portfolio on economic challenges and reforms; and coordination of major projects involving economic and/or financial modelling. You will engage in comprehensive research and analysis of quantitative and qualitive data, shaping a robust evidence base that informs strategic decision-making. You will have the opportunity of working closely with Aboriginal leadership in the region to help deliver Closing the Gap goals in the Kimberley.

Employment Conditions and Additional Information DPIRD is an Emergency Management Agency and all employees may be required to work or travel during, or outside of, normal business hours to assist with incidents and emergencies.
KDC staff, including this position, are employees of DPIRD assigned to the Regional Development Commission under a staffing arrangement (section 29, of the Regional Development Commission Act 1993).
Am I eligible to apply? To be eligible for a permanent appointment to the Western Australian public sector you must be an Australian citizen or have permanent residency status in Australia. To be eligible for a fixed term or a casual appointment you must have documentary evidence of your entitlement to live and work in Australia for the period as part of your application.
