About this opportunity: As a Principal Development Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in shaping urban planning and development within our dynamic community. Working with limited direction, you will be responsible for assessing the engineering aspects of complex and regionally significant development applications. Your expertise will ensure timely and consistent processing of applications, while upholding the quality of the Council's donated assets. Key Responsibilities: Leadership:
Foster a dynamic, innovative, and passionate team culture with a strong emphasis on delivering exceptional customer experiences to both the community and the development industry. Lead and manage a team of engineering and technical staff, providing mentorship and leadership across the Program. Technical:
Assess and determine regionally significant and complex development applications, offering written and verbal advice and negotiating with developers, Councillors, and the public, while liaising with Council departments and statutory authorities. Oversee the preliminary review and allocation of applications and referrals for assessment, and review the assessment of operational works applications. Ensure consistency and quality in the work of Engineering and Technical Officers. Essential Qualifications, Experience & Skills: Tertiary qualifications in Engineering or a related field. QLD "C" Class Driver's Licence or interstate equivalent. Strong civil engineering and infrastructure expertise. Familiarity with Queensland planning legislation and local government processes. Leadership, interpersonal skills, and extensive experience in complex project assessment and town planning. Why work for Mackay Regional Council?
