Data Analytics and Information Systems (DAIS) is a team of about 80 technical specialists, who discover, design, develop and deliver a complex and integrated suite of products and platforms enabling DEECA to plan, monitor and respond to Bushfires and other Emergencies.
The Principal Cloud Platform Engineer enhances software and platform development by implementing advanced automation frameworks. Reporting to the Senior Automation Engineering Lead, the role focuses on building infrastructure management implementations, developing reusable CI/CD pipelines, implementing full-stack test automation frameworks, and providing project-specific implementations. This position ensures the reliability and efficiency of critical emergency management systems supporting Victoria's forest management, incident management teams, frontline firefighters, and volunteers.
Specialist/Technical Expertise/QualificationsStrong experience working with cloud platforms (ideally Azure)Strong experience with infrastructure as code tools relevant to a cloud environment (such as Terraform or OpenTofu)Experience in implementing monitoring and alerting solutions for cloud platformsExperience working with an agile approach to software development and project deliveryAn equivalent/ relevant tertiary qualificationHighly DesirableExperience building and maintaining DevOps pipelines for Continuous Integration and Deployment (CI/CD) (Azure Pipelines, GitHub Actions, Jenkins)Experience in source control tools (e.g., Git, GitHub) and practices (e.g., GitHub Flow), or similarExperience with integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelinesExperience in serverless, microservices and event-driven architecturesExperience in modern web development using Angular, React, or Vue.jsAbility to write complex SQL queries and stored proceduresKnowledge of full-stack test automation frameworks (such as Playwright, Cypress, Protractor)Knowledge in planning, implementing & reporting QA activities at a project levelThis is a fixed term position available for a period of 2 years. The work location for this position is flexible within Victoria (primary office is Melbourne CBD) with hybrid work arrangements available.
