About The Role Are you passionate about shaping Australia's energy future? Due to an internal promotion, AEMO is seeking an experienced Principal – WA Future System Planning and Forecasting to lead the long-term energy outlook for Western Australia's electricity and gas markets. Your work will play a crucial role in ensuring secure, reliable, and affordable energy as part of Australia's energy transition. Based in Perth, this role reports to the Manager – WA Future System Planning and Forecasting.
What You Will Be Doing Contribute to flagship energy planning reports such as the Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM) Electricity Statement of Opportunities (ESOO) and the WA Gas Statement of Opportunities (GSOO) Coordinate AEMO's input in significant planning projects, including the Whole of System Plan and the Transmission System Plan Analyse and model energy demand and supply trends, including integrating electricity and gas systems Communicate insights on emerging energy system challenges in AEMO's Quarterly Energy Dynamics (QED) report Collaborate with stakeholders across business, industry, and government to ensure alignment with energy transition goals Enhance efficiency and delivery in system planning practices, ensuring stakeholder objectives are met on time and within budget What You Will Bring To The Role University degree in engineering, science, mathematics, or a related field 7+ years of experience in the energy industry, with expertise in quantitative analysis and long-term planning. Strong understanding of the power system operations, alongside an understanding of the political, legal, and regulatory framework of the energy sector Excellent communication and leadership skills, with experience in multi-disciplinary environments Proven ability to manage complex projects and engage with key stakeholders.
