The Research, Evaluation, Data Insights and Analysis Group supports QCS in ensuring its programs, initiatives and operations are informed by the latest evidence and research. It is tasked with working with external researchers, conducting its own internal research and evaluation projects, developing prisoner forecasts and analysing prisoner and offender trends, to build a strong evidence-base to support decision-making around QCS policy and practice, aligned with QCS strategic direction.

The role of the Principal Advisor Research and Evaluation is to contribute to this work through the provision of evidence-based research and analytical support by managing and conducting complex and ethically sound research and evaluation projects.
This is a new role intended to provide specific support to the evaluation and monitoring aspects of the new correctional facility at Gatton, the Lockyer Valley Correctional Centre (LVCC)). As LVCC is based on a new and innovative model of operation, evaluation activities will commence in 2024 and be ongoing until 2033. In addition to the points listed below, this new position will be closely involved with evaluation activities for LVCC.
Perform evaluation-related activities in relation to LVCC including supporting key business areas in the identification and mapping of data sources, undertake qualitative and quantitative data collection, reporting and analysis as required under the LVCC monitoring and evaluation framework, .Undertake activities related to managing the contracts for any external evaluations (those procured by QCS) of LVCC including liaison with external providers, ensuring that external providers make timely progress and meet agreed milestones, and providing feedback on the quality of reports/deliverables.Work with complex datasets and multiple data sources in relation to monitoring and evaluation of LVCC (and other projects or evaluations as required).Perform research activities relevant to criminal justice, correctional management, prisoner rehabilitation, contemporary offender intervention concepts, as well as community corrections frameworks, models and management concepts.Develop literature reviews, other research outputs and analyse research data to make contemporary practice and evidence-based recommendations to the Director, to affect service improvement, expansion and enhancement in QCS.Perform quantitative and qualitative research and use data collected to draw evidence-based conclusions that inform the future of QCS strategy and activities.Contribute to the functions of the overarching research governance mechanisms within QCS, such as project boards, reference groups and committees.Work collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders to manage research projects, with thought partners, such as academics and tertiary institutions, including representing QCS or the Research, Evaluation, Data Insights and Analysis Group at interjurisdictional. inter-agency and internal project working groups or committeesProvide high level advice to the Director, Research, Evaluation, Data Insights and Analysis Group, and the Assistant Commissioner, QCS Strategic Futures Command.Maintain a thorough understanding of QCS legislation and policy.Applications to remain current for 12 months.
