About us
As a department our purpose is to help the community to prevent, prepare for, respond to and recover from the impact of fire and emergency events.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES) is the primary provider of fire, rescue and emergency management programs and services throughout Queensland. The department encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue, Rural Fire Service Queensland, and also supports other volunteer groups providing emergency response to Queenslanders.
Purpose of the role
Workforce Support includes the Workforce Liaison; Honours, Reward and Recognition; and the Workplace Standards teams. The unit includes the regional network of Senior Advisors, Workplace Standards (SAWS) that help the unit achieve its aim of increasing people management capability, reducing instances of poor workplace conduct and increasing positive workplace experience.
Reporting to the Executive Manager, Workforce Support, you will assist with the support, coordination and functional administration of eight regionally based SAWS, to ensure that consistent and effective case management, support, and advice, is being provided to departmental leaders and personnel in the management of performance and conduct issues. You will perform research, analysis, assessment and writing tasks in relation to conduct and performance matters and take on case management of conduct matters as directed. You will also partner with senior leaders, external agencies and human resource practitioners to build capability for driving high performance, and retaining an inclusive, diverse and capable workforce.

* Extensive knowledge and/or practical experience in human resources or employee relations or qualifications in these fields will be favorably regarded.
Your key accountabilities
Your part in the ongoing success of our department, in supporting key frontline services will see you responsible for a variety of work, including, but not limited to:
* Contribute to the development of organisational frameworks, policies and procedures, and perform a functional administration and coordination role to support the Executive Manager and the eight regionally based SAWs.
* Engage and consult with internal and external stakeholders to promote consistent, efficient and effective processes, reporting and change management under the new departmental structure and regional hub model.
* Undertake high-level research into current and emerging issues and trends relating to the prevention and management of unacceptable workplace conduct or corrupt cases, and oversight of grievance resolution.
* Conduct quality audits on conduct management processes to ensure cases, advice and training being provided is consistent across the state and meets the departments legislative and industrial obligations.
* Provide advice and support on strategies and policy solutions to manage complex performance and conduct matters, and coach line managers on their implementation to build and retain an inclusive, diverse and capable workforce.
* Partner with key internal and external stakeholders to research, design and develop resources to support the regional SAWS network and educate line managers (including volunteers) to improve the management of employee conduct and performance.
* Prepare and review correspondence, reports, submissions and presentations on key topics and research activities which support organisational requirements in accordance with departmental requirements and governance.
* Represent and promote the interests of the unit at internal and external meetings and forums and negotiate agreed outcomes that ensure compliance, and develop a workforce that models professional and ethical behaviour.
