Primary objective
The Principal Advisor Offender Services is responsible for the coordination of daily operations and the management and supervision of a multi-disciplined team located within the Complex Behaviour Unit (CBU), at Darwin Correctional Centre (DCC). The Principal Advisor Offender Services will act as a point of contact and interface between the National Disability Insurance Agency and the Department of Corrections.
Key duties and responsibilities Manage, supervise, and support a team of clinically skilled and experienced staff responsible for disciplined specific clinical assessments and psychometric testing.Knowledge and skills in assessment, complex case management of prisoners exhibiting high and co-morbid needs, and other concepts underpinning the delivery of services to prisoners and offenders.Provide supervision to the Residential Manager Complex Needs Unit and operate effectively in a complex service area, contributing to the delivery of evidenced based, trauma informed and disability responsive services, ensuring humane and equitable care.Contribute to the development and review of operational guidelines, the model of care for prisoners accommodated within the Complex Needs Unit and contribute to therapeutic state-wide service improvements for people in custody with a disability and complex needs.Work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to oversee programs and services within the Complex Behaviour Unit and initiatives relating to better access to diversionary programs and alternatives to custody for people with disability.Contribute to the delivery of culturally appropriate best practice approaches by working collaboratively with the Aboriginal Engagement and Strategy Directorate, Aboriginal Support Officers, and other relevant stakeholders.Provide advice and support in the development of individualised management plans for people in custody with complex needs and/or disability and contribute to the development of safe transition plans back into the community.Maintain relevant documentation and record relevant statistical data for analysis and evaluations to inform departmental priorities.Selection criteria Essential Degree in Psychology/ Social Work/Behavioural sciences/Human Services/Registered Nurse or Mental Health Nurse/Occupational Therapy/Disability related degree and current registration or membership or be eligible for registration or membership with the relevant board or association.Demonstrated ability to provide leadership in a complex service environment and influence the achievement and outcomes required in areas of professional responsibility.Demonstrated knowledge and skills in prisoner or offender assessment, complex case management of prisoners exhibiting high and co-morbid needs.Ability to negotiate at senior levels of government and with non-government organisations.Demonstrated ability to lead and manage several complex major projects concurrently at a senior level.Demonstrated high level interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and motivation to multi-disciplined staff.Demonstrated high level of problem-solving, research, analytical, decision-making and conflict resolution skills.Desirable Demonstrated sound understanding of, or experience working within, the criminal justice system.Further information The Department of Corrections has a Smoke Free Policy.
