We have an exciting opportunity in the Employee Relations team. In this role, you will be a part of the Employee Relations Centre of Expertise team within People and Culture, a specialist team providing expert advice and assistance across the department on all industrial and employee relations matters. People and Culture provide a range of strategic human resource services and advice to the department in the areas of organisational change, employment programs, training and development, employee relations, and workplace health and safety.
What you will be doing:
As Principal Advisor, Employee Relations you will be responsible for providing industrial relations and employee relations advice and assistance across the department.
You will: Lead the implementation of effective industrial and employee relations strategy across the department, including the development and implementation of employee relations and human resources policies and initiatives.Provide high-level advice to departmental management and staff on a diverse range of contemporary employee relations and human resource issues, including organisational change, discipline, performance management, conflict resolution, and industrial relations.Represent the department in the negotiation of enterprise bargaining agreements and coordinate related activities, including liaison with central agencies and consultation with staff.Deliver industrial relations consultancy services, especially in relation to the provision of expert level advice on a diverse range of matters relating to the department's employment framework and the interpretation and application of relevant certified agreements, awards, legislation, and directives.Engage in high-level negotiations with employee organisations in relation to specific industrial relations and human resource issues. Mediate and liaise with employee organisations on day-to-day issues that affect the department and its employees.Represent the department and perform advocacy before external tribunals including the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.Lead research, prepare high-level correspondence including submissions, briefing notes, ministerial responses, and information papers relating to employee relations and industrial relations issues.Conduct research into industrial relations issues as they relate to the department's business and employees to determine applicability, cost impacts, whole-of-department and whole-of-Government implications and formulate and present recommendations arising from such research.What we are looking for: Your ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with a range of stakeholders, including unions, clients, team members, and other internal and external stakeholders, anticipate the needs and expectations of your clients and be proactive in providing a response.Your ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner using structured written and oral communication, undertake high-level negotiations confidently, and consult effectively within the department and across the public sector.Your excellent advisory and influencing skills and ability to provide strategic advice to senior management and staff on the effective management of industrial and employee relations issues.Your ability to provide expert advice on human resources, industrial and employee relations matters and interpret and advise on industrial instruments and policy, with particular emphasis on public sector legislative provisions, policies, awards, and certified agreements.Your ability to manage your own and your team's priorities and be responsive to changes in requirements.Your ability to focus on achieving objectives, while managing risk and uncertainty and conflicting demands in a sometimes complex and changing environment.Mandatory requirements:
While there are no mandatory qualifications for this role, tertiary qualifications in human resources or employee and industrial relations and/or knowledge and experience in employee and industrial relations will be highly regarded.
