Employment Status: Full-time (1.0 FTE). Fixed term position of responsibility
Tenure: 2 years
Employment Conditions: Enterprise Agreement 2024 – appropriate Band 2 allowance
Time Release: 0.7 FTE (0.3 FTE Teaching)
The Preparatory School Deputy – Junior Primary is responsible to the
Head of Preparatory School, working closely with the Preparatory.
Key Relationships: School Deputy – Primary, ELC Director and teaching staff. The Deputy
manages and leads the Transition to Year 1 teaching staff. All staff are
ultimately responsible to the Principal.

Position Objective:
The Preparatory School Deputy – Junior Primary takes responsibility for a range of curriculum, pastoral
and administrative tasks to ensure the smooth, effective running of the Primary (Transition to Year 1)
section of the Preparatory School.
A teacher at Westminster shares primary responsibility for the quality of teaching and learning,
assessment and reporting in the School. Teachers must have, and maintain, higher order knowledge in
the disciplines taught and in contemporary pedagogy. All teachers are expected to model life-long
learning, be at the forefront of pedagogical practice and strive to be working towards the HALT descriptors
of the Professional Teacher Standards. All Westminster Teachers are professionals who are expected to
maintain the highest standards of preparation for teaching and learning, student management, personal
presentation and punctuality to ensure the best possible outcomes for the students.
Key Responsibilities: General Undertake a range of teaching and leadership tasks as determined by the Head of the Preparatory School. Support the Head of Preparatory School and Principal in their vision for the School and play an active role in the promotion and marketing of the Junior Primary program at Westminster School. Oversee student pastoral care and discipline matters for Transition to Year 1 classes following the principles and guidelines of the Behaviour Management Policy when handling instances of non-compliance with School codes of behaviour and uniform. Liaise with the Head of Preparatory School regarding matters involving high level behaviour issues. Liaise closely with ELC staff as required. Maintain positive relationships with students, parents and colleagues, encouraging good spirit and morale. Communicate and liaise with parents on a range of issues. Liaise with schools and pre-schools regarding the needs of incoming and prospective families and facilitate the smooth transition of all students entering the School. Facilitate the smooth transition of students between sections of the School. Deputise for the Head of Preparatory School in his/her absence, or by delegation, as required. Serve on relevant committees and bodies both within and outside the School. Organise staff briefings and Professional Learning days as appropriate. Participate in appropriate Preparatory School and whole-School community events. Co-ordinate the School reporting process including organisation of the reporting software and associated data. Co-ordinate the School's process to facilitate parent interviews (Parent Teacher Online). Assist with the planning and execution of outdoor education experiences for students from Reception to Year 1. Curriculum leadership Ensure that staff incorporate the essential knowledge and skills of the Australian curriculum into teaching and learning programs and align these with the Westminster Teaching and Learning framework. Model progressive and constructive pedagogy. Provide curriculum leadership through developing and introducing innovative, high quality school curriculum. Ensure that teachers plan for and cater appropriately to the individual learning needs of their students in liaison with Stretch staff. Liaise and collaborate with the Deputy of Primary; Head of Preparatory School; Director of Learning to oversee curriculum development and implementation to ensure continuity and appropriateness. Discuss assessment and reporting procedures for Reception to Year 1 classes. Discuss the academic program in the Junior Primary. Pedagogical Leadership Employ a range of leadership techniques to assist teachers in the design and implementation of classroom strategies as part of their response to intervention, and the promotion of student engagement and achievement. Monitor instructional effectiveness and student progress using tools and strategies gained through professional development and provide feedback to teachers as they put these strategies/approaches into practice. Staff Actively coach and mentor staff in their pedagogy and methodology, to role model and lead by example. Assist with allocation of teaching loads in timetable development. Assist the Head of Preparatory School, where appropriate, with staff appointments. Mentor new staff, relief staff and pre-service teachers in the Junior Primary area. Liaise with the Human Resources regarding new staff orientation and induction. Oversee staff professional development and facilitate performance reviews, in consultation with Human Resources and the Head of Preparatory School. Promote collaboration, good spirit and morale amongst all staff. Organise and chair regular meetings of year level teams and Junior Primary staff. Attend regular meetings of ELC staff. Administration Overall day-to-day running of the Transition to Year 1 classes in the Preparatory School. Organisation of daily routine and regular events such as Junior Primary assemblies. Liaise with other staff regarding the preparation of relevant documentation such as school timetable, duty roster and policies. Support, assist and advise the Head of Preparatory School on Preparatory School operations, in particular those affecting Transition to Year 1 classes. Liaise with the Head of Preparatory School and Deputy of Primary to organise whole school functions such as Grandparents Day, photographs, award ceremonies etc. Preparation and submission of budget requests in consultation with Business Office staff and oversee the allocation of resources for Junior Primary. Other Responsibilities All teaching staff are expected to contribute to the Pastoral Care program and support the Uniting Church ethos. All employees are expected to contribute fully to the life of the School, particularly with respect to sports supervision, outdoor education, House duties, School assemblies and such other co-curricular activities as may be required. Have input on developments and improvements to Transition -Year 1 classes regarding property, equipment and facilities. Other duties, as required by Principal and Head of Preparatory School, commensurate with the position. Key Selection Criteria: Qualifications, Skills and Experience Relevant tertiary qualifications. Demonstrated experience in a leadership role. Proven expertise in driving curriculum and pedagogical development, particularly in the coaching and mentoring of staff. Demonstrated passion for, and experience in, teaching in the Junior Primary. Innovative and exemplary classroom practitioner with a proven record of student outcomes. The capacity to cater for students with a range of abilities and learning styles within the classroom and to monitor, and respond to, student progress. The capability to work co-operatively with students, staff and parents to produce the best learning outcomes for students. Regular and up to date professional knowledge and learning. Involvement at relevant professional organisations. Registration as a Teacher in South Australia (or ability to obtain). Conditions of Employment All applicants must be eligible to work in Australia. Teachers must have (or be eligible to obtain) current registration with Teachers Registration Board of South Australia. All staff must satisfy child protection screening and adhere to Westminster's Child Safety and Wellbeing policy which includes holding a current Working With Children Clearance.
