About the role:

The overall purpose of the Practitioner, Secondary Family Support is to provide a support service to vulnerable families experiencing challenges in caring for their children. Practitioners will provide practical and therapeutic assistance to families so their children can remain safely in the family home. The participants of this program a referred from various difference streams.

This is a Permanent Full-Time role working 76 hours per fortnight based at our Gympie service.

Responsibilities:

Build strong relationships with parents and children to enhance service delivery.Collaborate with Indigenous agencies to establish a supportive community network for families.Teach practical skills to parents to improve home environment safety and stability.Assess, plan, and deliver child-focused services considering protective and risk factors, guiding families towards a safe home environment.Foster a collaborative work environment for staff.Effective, clear, and consistent communication with parents, families, and stakeholders.Maintain comprehensive record keeping for quality assurance.Stay updated on current research and practices in family intervention.


Qualifications, Credentials And Other Requirements

Degree in Health, Human Services, Behavioural Science, Social Work, Psychology or similar (Desirable)Current National Police CheckCurrent Blue CardCurrent Licenced Care Service (LCS)Current Queensland Driver LicenceAbility and willingness to travel within the service region.Ability and willingness to work outside of standard business hours and provide on-call support as required.


About You:

Proven experience in professional case work involving children, families, and perpetrators of family violence.Exceptional communication skills, adept at engaging children and families in decision-making, conflict resolution, crisis management, and safety planning.Knowledge of child protection frameworks, including the Child Protection Act (1999), and awareness of current issues in child protection.Cultural competence, with the ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.Background in family support work encompassing various challenges such as family violence, mental health issues, parenting difficulties, disabilities affecting children or parents, substance misuse, and community isolation.Proficiency in complex documentation, including case planning and family assessment reports spanning multiple agencies.Strong computer literacy, including intermediate proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
