TAIHS was established in 1974. At that time, it was the fourth Aboriginal community-controlled health service (ACCHS) established in Australia. TAIHS provides comprehensive primary health services and a range of community services. TAIHS seeks to improve health and social outcomes for the community through strategic partnerships, advocacy for needs, promotion of awareness and education in improved health and social practices, the promotion of knowledge and understanding of underlying issues to address the unique patient and client needs and the development of evidence-based practices.

The Position The position of the Family Wellbeing Practice Lead (PL) is to provide advice, information and supervision support to Wellbeing Workers (staff) within the Family Wellbeing team. Support is delivered through a case management model underpinned by the Family Wellbeing Service Practice Procedures and Family Wellbeing contractual agreement standards. The PL supports Wellbeing Workers across three key areas of the provision of early intervention strategies; information, advice and referral to services for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, young people and their families, with a primary focus on the care and protection of children and young people who may be experiencing vulnerabilities or whose families have complex needs. As a PL you are expected to exercise a high level of integrity, accountability and professionalism, always promoting a consistent approach to practice across all Family Wellbeing processes.
At the direction of the Program Manager, the PL assists in maintaining the overall efficiency and effectiveness of program delivery to the children, young people and their families. The PL achieves this through contributing to building a strong workforce by providing mentorship and leadership to the staff through practice supervision of case management and reviewing via ARC entries.
Working under limited supervision, the PL provides sound judgement in relation to complex cases and demonstrates initiative where procedures are not clearly defined. Whilst the position involves contributing to the operational objectives and provision of practical support to children, young people and their families, the PL will also be required to manage continuous improvements through encouraging innovation and best practice, in accordance with the values of TAIHS and Code of Conduct. This position will also be responsible for ensuring all Workers respond to the physical, social, emotional, cultural and spiritual needs of children, young people and their families with a view to meeting and/or exceeding those individual needs.
To be suitable for this position, your qualifications, experience & licenses for the role will consist of: Significant knowledge and understanding of the issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and individuals in contemporary societyQualifications in social work, psychology, education, allied health, or social sciences OR with at least an appropriate certificate relevant to the work required to be performed, e.g. Diploma levelPrevious experience in a relevant industry, service or an equivalent level of expertise and experience to undertake the range of activities requiredPrevious experience in supervising and supporting staff membersAbility to work autonomously and display initiative, self-motivation, time management and solution-focused skillsSound knowledge of protective factors for children's learning and development including parenting skills models and attachment theoryDemonstrated oral communication skills and competence in use of business technology and desktop applications; internet, word, spreadsheet and database packages.Demonstrated ability to research and analyse complex material, summarise key issuesKnowledge of or the ability to acquire knowledge of the relevant Government statutes governing statutory child protection work (e.g. Child Protection Act 1999) and the ability to keep knowledge current of the legislative, practice and procedural changes within this systemDemonstrated ability to provide information and advice from a child's family and community regarding protective and cultural matters that is culturally sound, accountable and accepted, including the ability to participate in statutory decision making that impacts significantly on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and their familiesDemonstrate highly developed communication skills with the ability to liaise, consult and negotiate positive outcomes in collaboration with clients, internal and external stakeholdersAbility to work with a team in ways that are respectful, transparent and acknowledging of individual's skills, abilities and capacitiesCurrent Paid Blue Card (Queensland's Working with Children Check)Current C Class Drivers Licence (Qld)Why work for TAIHS: Salary packaging opportunities12 days Annual leave per yearTraining and Development OpportunitiesPersonal growth OpportunitiesGenerous remunerationEAP servicesTo Apply: Please click here to view the current Position Description.
