About Us Alton Legal is a well-established law firm located in the heart of Sydney's Central Business District.
We are known for our dedication to delivering high-quality legal services across a broad spectrum of practice areas.
The Position Alton Legal is seeking dedicated and enthusiastic law students looking to gain practical experience in immigration and administrative law.
In this role, you will gain exposure to various aspects of immigration/administrative law practice, including: Social media marketing, website content writing, and managing content for platforms such as Red, Instagram, and Facebook.
Taking client instructions.
Liaising with external parties, including the Department of Home Affairs (DHA), police, barristers, and other solicitors.
Conducting legal research and analysis.
Drafting legal documents, including briefs to counsel, written submissions, and affidavits.
Attending Administrative Appeals Tribunal (AAT) hearings with solicitors to assist or with barristers to instruct or support them.
Other administrative and clerical duties.
Please note this role is an unpaid full-time volunteer position.
However, all our solicitors are employed directly from the PLT pool, and as such there may well be a prospect of employment as a junior solicitor following the completion of your PLT placement.
The ideal candidate should: Possess a strong interest in immigration/administrative law.
Be motivated, proactive, and have a can-do attitude.
Have strong problem-solving skills.
Display good organization and time management skills.
Be able to work independently and as part of a team.
Mandarin/Cantonese speaking.
