Salary: $90,000 - $105,000 + superannuation + generous salary packaging options (Pro-rata for Part-time role).Location: Based in Brisbane.Positions Available: 2x Full Time and 1x Part Time.About the Baker InstituteBaker Heart and Diabetes Institute is an independent, internationally renowned medical research facility. Our work extends from the laboratory to wide-scale community studies with a focus on diagnosis, prevention and treatment of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.About the RoleWe are currently recruiting for Postdoctoral Researchers with experience in research conduct, analysis and preparation of research output. The ideal candidates will be enthusiastic about participating across a wide variety of research projects for academia and industry. This is an exciting opportunity for Postdoctoral Researchers, computational biologists/computer scientists who will be based at the Baker Institute in the Computational Biology and Clinical Informatics lab and supervised by Prof Ascher. These appointments will be for up to 1 year initially, with the potential to extend subject to performance and funding.Key DutiesIn this role you will be expected to:Collaborate with Baker Institute laboratories and support them with advice/expertise on experimental design, data processing, analysis, visualisation and interpretation.Perform high quality research in genomics, bioinformatics or computational biology.Develop or modify new analytical methodologies that would allow researchers to use cutting-edge tools for their research.Contribute to preparing manuscripts for publication, technical reports and other research-related documents.Participate in the planning and development of general goals for the research project.Organise data for supporting new funding applications.Supervise research students.Attend team meetings and all relevant seminars and staff meetings.Perform other duties as directed by the manager/supervisor from time to time.Skills and ExperienceYou will have:Research or industry experience in at least one of the following areas: data science, software development, machine learning, deep learning, computational biology, bioinformatics or biostatistics, with high competency in the statistical and computational analysis of large datasets.Application or development of machine learning and/or deep learning methods to biological and medical data.Demonstrated ability to use Unix-based systems, HPC clusters, modern scripting/programming languages including Python and R.Experience in application development for the web, both front-end and back-end and relational database development and management.A PhD in a quantitative discipline (such as computer science, computational biology, bioinformatics or statistics) and/or science discipline (such as biochemistry, molecular biology or genetics/genomics) with substantial computational component.Well-developed time management skills, including the ability to negotiate priorities and manage conflicting demands for resources.A high level of independence and initiative and demonstrated ability to consistently produce high quality results.Demonstrated ability to lead and contribute to high impact research publications.Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and comply with privacy requirements.How to ApplyApplications should include a current resume and cover letter, quoting reference (DA01) and state why you are interested in this role.
