QIMR Berghofer is a world-leading translational medical research institute focused on improving health by developing new diagnostics, better treatments and prevention strategies, specifically in the areas of Cancer, Infection and Inflammation, Mental Health and Neuroscience, and Population Health.
Based in Herston, Brisbane and working in close collaboration with clinicians and other research institutes, QIMR Berghofer is home to more than 600 scientists, students and non-research staff.
About the Psychiatric Genetics Group: With about half of all Australians experiencing poor mental health at some stage in their lives, our research group focuses on understanding factors that influence mental health and behaviour.
We work on a range of mental health areas including anxiety, depression, ADHD, Autistic Spectrum Disorder, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, and schizophrenia.
Our team (has training in psychology, genetics and epidemiology) and is dedicated to improving our understanding of how mental health conditions develop and why different treatment approaches work for some people but not others.
About the role: We are looking for a post-doctoral researcher to join our team and work with us on a range of funded projects.
Within this role you would be analysing genome-wide SNP and sequencing data.
While there are some key projects that we are working on there is also the flexibility to develop your own research question.Within the group we support postdoctoral researchers to write and submit their own applications for funding as the lead applicant.This role is an excellent opportunity for an early-mid career postdoctoral researcher to develop research experience as part of a multi-disciplinary collaborative team.This is an analytic (dry-lab) roleAbout You: We are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
PhD in psychology, statistics, epidemiology, genetics or related academic areas with a strong data analysis componentExcellent coding skills and confidence in working within unix environments with a focus on reproducibility and open-source publishing of codeExperience of analysing large genetic datasets, e.g.
UK Biobank or clinical studiesExcellent attention to detail in communication, data management and reporting resultsStrong interpersonal and written communication skillsExperience of writing and publishing papers as first authorExperience of collaborative research, supporting a wider team to achieve their goalsWorking both independently and as part of a group.Building expertise in research methodologySelected candidates will be expected to adhere to the highest quality and ethical standards, comply with the Institute's Work Health & Safety policies and any relevant legislative requirements.Our ideal candidate would have analytic (dry-lab) experience working in two or more of the following areas: Mental health/Psychology, Co-design/Co-participatory projects, Mixed methods, Psychiatric genetics, Pharmacogenomics, Imaging genetics, Statistical genetics of complex traits, or Analysis of WES or WGS data in the context of complex traits.

Remuneration: Salary range is $96,100to $128,721 p.a.
plus super and salary packaging.
This is a full-time appointment for 2 years, with the potential for renewal.
