You are applying for the position of Postdoctoral Researcher - Functional Genomics for Hudson Institute of Medical Research. Please fill in your details below to submit an application for this position.
The primary site for this position is: Melbourne.
The candidate will conduct high throughput functional genomics screens using CRISPR/Cas9 technology to identify and progress new therapeutic targets in childhood brain cancer. The candidate will work alongside computational biologists to process multi-omics pipelines and apply new analytical methods to identify new therapeutic targets and predictive biomarkers of response in childhood cancers. The successful candidates will join a dynamic team of researchers and clinicians in a supportive and flexible working environment. The candidate will have the opportunity to develop new research directions that complement existing themes and interact broadly with other researchers. As such, they will also have the opportunity to establish and contribute to collaborative research projects and to gain supervision experience.
SELECTION CRITERIA The role will suit someone who has: Ethical and compliance-oriented thinker.Highly collaborative and team-oriented.Experience in bioinformatics and research into pediatric cancers.Interested in contributing to the delivery of publications.A PhD in Biology/Medical Sciences or related area with a keen interest in application.Previous experience with mammalian tissue culture (growth, transfection, transduction methods), molecular biology techniques (PCR, cloning, DNA/RNA extraction, CRISPR/Cas9 technology, Western blot).Previous experience or understanding of pooled CRISPR/Cas9 or shRNA screens is desirable.Familiarity/experience in bioinformatics and interpretation of NGS/large omics data sets.Ability in conducting research as indicated by a track record of high impact research publications.Capability to work independently within a cross-disciplinary research team to meet agreed objectives.Your responsibilities include: Develop hypotheses and conduct experiments to test/validate research findings.Make significant contributions to the interpretation and communication of research or technological results, drafting reports and manuscripts for presentation and publication, and delivering presentations at conferences and meetings.Assist in training and supervising students and junior staff members.Work alongside bioinformaticians to generate hypotheses and conceptual directions.EMPLOYMENT TERMS This position is a fixed term contract role in a full-time capacity. Salary is based on Research Group pay scale at RES Level A step 3 to RES Level C dependent on level of experience. Superannuation of 11.5% and very attractive salary packaging options are available.
