Postdoctoral Fellow COVID-19 Vaccine Effectiveness Research The School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow (PDF) for a 1-year term, with the option for renewal for one additional year. The position will: focus on assessment of COVID-19 vaccine coverage, safety and effectiveness, using BC COVID-19 Cohort. The BC COVID-19 Cohort integrate various datasets including BC-wide COVID-19 laboratory tests, COVID-19 surveillance case data, COVID-19 immunizations, prescription drugs, medical visits, emergency room visits, hospital admissions, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) admissions, Chronic Disease Registry, and client roster and mortality. This work will be perform in collaboration with Pan Canadian collaboration funded through Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). 
The position will be based in the Data and Analytic Services team at the BC Centre for Disease Control (BCCDC) and in the School of Population and Public Health (SPPH) at the University of British Columbia. BCCDC is the lead public health organization for surveillance, modelling, research and evaluation, guidelines and policy development for COVID-19 response in British Columbia. Our team is currently working on range of COVID-19 projects including COVID-19 surveillance, assessment of outcomes, impact of interventions, and mathematical modelling of transmission. We have a strong interdisciplinary group of epidemiologists, statisticians, mathematical modelers, infectious disease and public health physicians and policymakers working in a data-rich environment with many learning and development opportunities.
Housed within the Faculty of Medicine, SPPH is an innovative unit that encompasses many of the health-related groupings at UBC as a collaborative venture. The School is structured around four divisions: Occupational and Environmental Health; Health Services and Policy; Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Public Health Practice; and Health in Populations. The resulting mix of professions and disciplines is seen as a means of connecting individuals and learners to galvanize the relationship between health research, public health and health services and to enhance learning.
The primary activities of the Postdoctoral Research Fellow include:
Analysis of data related to COVID-19 including risk factors, COVID-19 vaccine safety and effectiveness assessment using COVID-19 cohort. Specific duties include, but not limited to: developing plan for analysis, conducting analysis independently or working with statisticians, writing reports and manuscript, communicating results, communicating with collaborators regarding project matters including update on findings, and writing grants.
The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will have support and flexibility to develop their own research program, in collaboration with local, national and international partners.
The candidate must have completed a PhD in epidemiology, health services, public health, with strong health services research and epidemiology background.
Training in the following areas:
Recent related experience including experience in design, analysis and interpretation of health services related dataExperience of working with vaccine safety and vaccine effectiveness will be an asset.Exceptional written, oral, and visual communication skills with proven track record of peer reviewed publications and presentations at scientific conferencesExcellent research project management and interpersonal skills.A strong background in assessment and measurements of health characteristics using Canadian health services databases and issues related to measurements and harmonization across settingsA strong background in analysis of large linked health services datasets. Errors made could influence the ability of the research team to meet critical deadlines, as well as compromise the results of research project, and therefore impact the credibility of the Principal Investigator. Poor decisions may be damaging to the reputation of the Principal Investigator, the School, and the University and could lead to incorrect or inappropriate policy recommendations being made.
