The position is therefore only open to women, gender diverse applicants and those who identify as women.About This OpportunityWe are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join Professor Tim Miller and his team focusing on human-centered decision support using artificial intelligence (AI).
The research fellow will collaborate with UQ academics Dr. Ida Asadi Someh and Dr. Tapani Rinta-Kahila from the UQ Business School.The successful candidate will apply their expertise in human-centred AI on a set of projects to investigate skill development and skill erosion when using AI decision support.
The successful candidate will work with the team and external experts to design, implement, and evaluate decision support tools, and to run large-scale experiments and field studies to evaluate the impact of these tools on skill development and skill erosion.
It is expected that the successful candidate will contribute to research, some external engagement, and to teaching part of one course per year or supervise thesis students.
This is a valuable opportunity to develop a teaching portfolio and an emerging research portfolio when applying for academic and other research positions in the future.This role will require the candidate to be in Brisbane regularly (e.g., weekly), so we are unlikely to be able to support remote appointments.
Please reach out to Tim if you have questions about this.Key responsibilities will include:Produce quality and impactful research in the area of human-centered AI.Publish outputs in high-quality outlets, such as AAAI, IJCAI, NeurIPs, CVPR, EMNLP, CHI, CSCW, FAccT, ICIS, HICSS, ECIS, or similar.Work with the team and external domain experts in joint research projects and applications for competitive research funding support.Develop a coherent research program and an emerging research profile in the area of human-centered artificial intelligence.Teach part of one course per year within the School of EECS.Contribute to the effective supervision of Honours and Higher Degree by Research students (as appropriate).Work to promptly resolve conflict and grievances when they arise in accordance with University policy and procedures.Demonstrate citizenship behaviours that align with the UQ values and with the missions and values of the lab.Show emerging or developed leadership and self-management through collaboration and active participation in priority activities.Contribute to internal service roles and administrative processes as required, including participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.Begin to develop external links and partnerships by cultivating relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies, and the wider community.This is a research-focused position.
