About the Project:
Project SMaRTER (Systematic Measurement and Remediation Techniques for Enhanced Tower Reliability) is an exciting initiative in collaboration with Amplitel aimed at revolutionizing the monitoring and maintenance of Australia's mobile tower infrastructure.
This project focuses on AI-driven solutions to enhance the integrity and longevity of mobile towers, combining cutting-edge technologies like AI, advanced sensing techniques, and robotics for automated inspection and remediation.

As part of this high-impact project, you will contribute to the conceptualization and implementation of the SMART tower of the future, capable of real-time monitoring, predictive maintenance, and AI-enhanced decision-making.

About the Role:
We are seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with strong expertise in AI, telecommunications, or robotics.
You will lead the development of AI models to analyze mobile tower degradation, automate maintenance schedules, and improve reliability.
This role involves collaboration with the UTS Robotics Institute and Amplitel, contributing to groundbreaking work on autonomous tower inspection and the feasibility of robotic systems for tower remediation.

In addition, you will supervise six graduate interns, helping to develop the next generation of experts in AI-driven telecommunications maintenance.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop AI models to predict tower degradation and optimize maintenance schedules using advanced measurement techniques (e.g., impedance spectroscopy, pulse eddy current).
Conduct research into AI-enhanced monitoring technologies for mobile towers, integrating passive and active sensing methods.
Lead feasibility studies on the design of tower-climbing robots and other autonomous systems for inspection and maintenance.
Supervise six paid graduate interns, providing mentorship and ensuring their contributions align with the project's objectives.
Collaborate with Amplitel to ensure that research addresses industry needs, focusing on improving asset longevity and operational efficiency.
Publish research findings in top-tier journals and present at industry and academic forums.
Key Qualifications:
PhD in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, AI, Telecommunications, or a related field.
Experience in telecommunications infrastructure, particularly in AI-driven monitoring, structural analysis, and automated maintenance systems is preferable.
Strong background in AI, machine learning, and sensor technologies for real-time data analysis and predictive maintenance.
Experience with robotics, particularly in autonomous systems for infrastructure inspection, is highly desirable.
Proven track record of high-impact research publications and presentations at industry forums.
Experience supervising students or interns in a research environment is preferred.

Base Salary Range: $121,566 to $143,880 pa (Level B)
This role attracts 17% superannuation (pension) in addition to the base salary.

This position is full-time and an appointment will be made on a fixed term basis for 4 years.
