Postdoctoral Research Fellow A/B in Water Resources Infrastructure Research & Fellowships, Other (Education & Training)Full time(Level A) $75,888 - $102,040 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.(Level B) $107,276 – $126,894 per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation applies.Full Time, Fixed Term position for 24 monthsThis is a fantastic opportunity be part of a collaborative partnership between the University of Adelaide and Deakin University.The University of Adelaide in collaboration with Deakin University is recruiting a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow (Level A/B) in Water Resources Infrastructure. The position will be located The University of Adelaide within the North Terrace campus.We are seeking individuals with expertise in hydraulic transients research. The successful applicant will focus on furthering the development of leading technology for the active management of water distribution systems. Modern cities worldwide utilise "Smart Water Networks" to manage these systems, however many limitations still remain with respect to the control of potentially devastating hydraulic transients. This position will involve the development of data analysis techniques (including machine learning) and process-based algorithms to diagnose and interpret high-frequency hydraulic data for the purpose of providing actionable information. Analysis methods will also be developed to provide insights to improve network design and retrofitting of network components. Despite the focus on methodological development, this position will involve working closely with Adelaide's water utility on their CBD network data.The successful applicant will have the opportunity to mentor graduate students and collaborate with other post-doctoral researchers. Mentoring and professional development opportunities will be available at the University of Adelaide and Deakin University.To be successful at Level A you will:A PhD in a discipline related to civil or mechanical engineering, or applied mathematics;Demonstrated experience in hydraulics/fluid mechanics;Demonstrated experience in computer programming;A demonstrated track record of high-quality publications relative to opportunity;Excellent verbal and written skills, and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate across disciplines and collaborate with a wide range of professionals in the university, government, industry and research sectors;High level organisational skills, time management, including the ability to prioritise and manage workload and meet competing deadlinesTo be successful at Level B you will also:A PhD in a discipline related to civil or mechanical engineering, or applied mathematics;Demonstrated experience and substantial knowledge in the fields of hydraulics/fluid mechanics;Demonstrated experience in computer programming and broad understanding of numerical methods;A demonstrated track record of high-quality publications relative to opportunity;Excellent verbal and written skills, and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate across disciplines and collaborate with a wide range of professionals in the university, government, industry and research sectors;High level organisational skills, time management, including the ability to prioritise and manage workload and meet competing deadlines;Experience in the supervision of research students, and an ability to guide and oversee postgraduate and honours students and supervise research support staff.Level A:Experience in working as part of large, dynamic multi-disciplinary teams;Demonstrated experience in hydraulic transients research;Experience in designing and undertaking a laboratory experimental program, and field work experience;Knowledge of signal processing and machine learning/optimisation techniques;Ability to guide and oversee postgraduate and honours students and supervise research support staff;A strong record of research performance, including capacity to identify productive research directions relative to opportunity.Level B:Experience in working as part of large, dynamic multi-disciplinary teams and playing a leadership role to junior staff and students;Demonstrated experience and deep knowledge in hydraulic transients research;Broad experience in designing and undertaking a laboratory experimental program, and field work experience;Significant knowledge of signal processing and machine learning/optimisation techniques;A strong record of research performance, including capacity to identify productive research directions relative to opportunity;Experience in writing and winning research grant proposalsPlease note:Some interstate travel may be requiredEnjoy an outstanding career environmentThe University of Adelaide is a uniquely rewarding workplace.
