Level A ($75,888-$102,040) per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation Level B ($107,276-$126,894) per annum plus an employer contribution of 17% superannuation 24 months full time fixed-term contract The School of Agriculture, Food and Wine at the University of Adelaide is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to conduct investigations into molecular phenotyping approaches aimed at predicting wheat genotypes resilient to the anticipated warmer temperatures in future environments.

The Grant Funded Researcher will play a vital role in the new Grains Research and Development Council (GRDC) analytics initiative, Analytics for the Australian Grains Industry (AAGI). The primary responsibilities of the candidate will revolve around complex statistical modelling, computational statistics, software application development, reporting of analytics, and collaborating with multi-disciplinary nationwide research teams. There will also be an opportunity for the candidate to broaden their analytical skillset through professional development and this may include aspects of machine learning, artificial intelligence, and data science.
The ideal candidate will possess strong programming skills in R or Python, excellent communication abilities, and a proven ability to meet deadlines.
The position is situated within the School of Agriculture, Food & Wine, part of the Faculty of Sciences, Engineering, and Technology, located at the Waite Campus of the University of Adelaide. The Waite campus boasts a premier concentration of scientific research, education, and resource capacity, ensuring access to appropriate infrastructure and facilities.
Key Responsibilities:
Complex statistical modelling: Utilize advanced statistical modelling techniques and methodologies to analyze and interpret project research data. Computational statistics: Develop and implement computational pipelines to automate and handle large-scale datasets, including data cleaning, preprocessing, and analysis. Online software application development: Assist in designing, developing, and maintaining software applications and tools to support research projects, including data management systems, data visualization tools, and statistical analysis software. Analytical reporting: Prepare comprehensive technical reports and presentations summarizing research findings, statistical analyses, and computational methodologies. Effectively communicate complex concepts and results to both technical and non-technical audiences. Collaboration: Collaborate with researchers from various disciplines and institutions to ensure the successful completion of research projects. Assist in the development of collaborative international journal articles by contributing to the research design, data analysis, and manuscript preparation. Time management: Manage and prioritize the analytical requirements of multiple research projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion of deliverables. Effectively coordinate with team members, principal investigators, and external collaborators. Data integrity and ethics: Maintain the highest standards of data integrity, research ethics, and confidentiality. Adhere to institutional, funding body and ethical guidelines while handling sensitive and confidential research data. Qualifications and Skills (Essential):
Minimum Honours or equivalent degree in Statistics, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field. Strong proficiency in statistical modelling, data analysis, and computational statistics. Proficiency in programming languages such as R or Python, with experience in data manipulation, visualization, and statistical packages (e.g., ggplot2, ASReml, odw) Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex information clearly and effectively. Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, work independently, and collaborate in a team environment. Knowledge of research methodologies, experimental design, and statistical inference. Knowledge of plant breeding and pre-breeding concepts and how they relate to comparative experimentation. Proven track record of publishing research articles in peer-reviewed journals. Skills (Desirable):
Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and software development best practices. Familiarity with machine learning algorithms and techniques is a plus.
