Applications are invited for the position of Postdoctoral Research Associate (Position reference: 0169U) in Philosophy working with Professors Catriona Mackenzie, Wendy Rogers, and Susan Dodds on an ARC Discovery Project: Vulnerability, Autonomy and Justice (DP 110102272). This project is part of the research activities of the Macquarie University Research Centre for Agency, Values and Ethics (CAVE) and will provide a supportive and challenging opportunity for an early career researcher to develop their research skills.
The aims of the ARC project are:
To develop a philosophical analysis of the concept of vulnerability, and to assess its implications for conceptions of moral obligation, autonomy, and justice.To use this philosophical analysis as the groundwork for developing a theoretically robust account of vulnerability in bioethics.To test the applicability of our theoretical analysis in the domains of research ethics and public health ethics.The Research Associate will be based at Macquarie University, working with Profs Mackenzie and Rogers. The successful applicant will work on whichever aspect of the project's aims best fits with her/his research interests, background, and skills. S/he will also be responsible for conceptual mapping of the literature in relevant areas, drafting papers for presentations and publications in collaboration with the CIs, and will assist in the organization of associated research workshops.
Applicants are expected to hold a PhD in Philosophy or Bioethics and have demonstrated relevant research experience (e.g., research publications). Experience in research assistance and working on collaborative research projects would be an advantage.
The appointment is at Level A, Step 8 of the academic salary scale on a 0.6 fraction for 2 years. There is scope for the successful applicant to negotiate an appointment at a higher fraction either for a shorter period or by taking on fractional teaching duties.
